‘Bharat Taxi’ Launched as Cooperative-Based Ride Service Offering Affordable Travel and Driver Ownership Model, Says Amit Shah
New Delhi (Agency): Union Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah on Thursday launched the cooperative-based taxi service platform Bharat Taxi after a successful two-month pilot project.
The service has initially been rolled out in the Delhi-NCR region and the state of Gujarat.
Addressing a gathering at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, Amit Shah said, “You will be the driver, and you will also be the owner of the Bharat Taxi platform.”
He added that the profits generated through the platform would be shared directly with the drivers associated with it.
Shah explained that out of every ₹100 earned, the platform would retain ₹20, while ₹80 would be transferred directly into the drivers’ bank accounts.
He further emphasized that even the ownership of the retained ₹20 would belong to the drivers themselves. Nearly one thousand drivers participated in the launch event held at Vigyan Bhavan.
Following the platform’s inauguration, Amit Shah said that within the next three years, Bharat Taxi services would expand across the country — from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Dwarka to Kamakhya.
He noted that through this online taxi service platform, customers would be able to book cars, three-wheelers, and two-wheelers conveniently.
Market Currently Dominated by Private Players
At present, India’s online taxi market is largely controlled by a few companies such as Uber, Ola, and Rapido.
Bharat Taxi has been registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, and was formally established on June 6, 2025.
Notably, the platform does not impose any commission charges on drivers, nor does it allow surge pricing during peak hours. Instead, profits are distributed directly among the drivers connected to the platform.
“You Are the Driver and the Owner,” Reiterates Shah
Once again addressing drivers at the event, Amit Shah reiterated that they would not only operate vehicles but would also collectively own the Bharat Taxi platform.
He stressed that earnings would be shared transparently, with 80 percent going directly to drivers, while the remaining 20 percent — though retained by the platform — would still be owned by the drivers themselves.
