In a landmark move that could reshape the higher education landscape of Uttar Pradesh, the UP Cabinet has given the green light to three new private universities and a prestigious international scholarship programme for bright yet underprivileged students.
State Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay shared the transformative decisions on Thursday evening, signalling a bold vision for empowering youth, expanding opportunities, and putting UP on the global education map.
THREE NEW PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES
1️⃣ Vedanta University, Muzaffarnagar
Spread over 23.33 acres of prime urban land, Vedanta University — backed by the Lala Fatehchand Charitable Trust — is set to become a hub for academic excellence. The proposal has already cleared the Higher Education Department and the State-Level Expert Committee’s scrutiny.
The trust must complete all formalities within two years to begin operations.
2️⃣ Bodhisattva University, Barabanki
✅ Now officially operational! After fulfilling all regulatory norms under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Third Amendment) Act, Bodhisattva University has received Cabinet approval to start academic activities without delay.
3️⃣ KD University, Mathura
Already known for its reputed dental college, KD University now has the green signal to function as a full-fledged university. With 50+ acres — more than double the minimum requirement — and all approvals in place, it’s ready to welcome students across multiple disciplines.
