Bihar Approves 35% Job Reservation for Women, Launches Youth Commission to Empower Next Generation
In a landmark move aimed at promoting gender equality and youth empowerment, the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government on Tuesday approved a series of progressive decisions during a high-level #cabinetmeeting, including a 35% reservation for women in all state government jobs and the establishment of a dedicated Bihar Youth Commission.
#ReservationForWomen in Government Jobs
The government announced that a 35% horizontal reservation will now be implemented in direct recruitment across all cadres of state government services—but only for women who are permanent residents of Bihar.
This means that local women will have a significantly enhanced opportunity to secure #governmentjobs, furthering both women’s representation and employment equity in the public sector.
“This reservation applies to all categories within the government service structure, ensuring fair access and empowerment for women at every level,” explained #ChiefSecretary S. Siddharth during a press briefing following the cabinet session chaired by #CMNitishKumar.
Launch of #BiharYouthCommission
In another forward-looking step, the cabinet also approved the formation of the #BiharYouthCommission, a specialized body intended to serve as an advisory and monitoring agency for all youth-related developmental initiatives in the state.
Announcing the decision on #X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wrote:
“I am happy to inform you that to expand employment opportunities, provide skill training, and make the youth of Bihar self-reliant and capable, the government has decided to establish the Bihar Youth Commission.”
The commission is expected to work as a coordinating agency between multiple departments such as #education, #skilldevelopment, and #employment, ensuring streamlined delivery of youth-focused schemes.
It will consist of one chairperson, two vice-chairpersons, and seven members, representing diverse sections of society.
Commission’s Mandate: Empowering Bihar’s Youth
According to the Chief Minister, the #YouthCommission will play a pivotal role in:
-
Ensuring local youth are prioritized for private sector jobs within Bihar.
-
Supporting students and workers from Bihar who are based in other states.
-
Addressing social challenges like alcohol and drug abuse through awareness campaigns and policy recommendations.
-
Strengthening access to education, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship programs.
