Birthday Celebration Turns Fatal: 13-Year-Old Shot Dead in Lucknow, Questions Mount Over ‘Accidental’ Firing

What was meant to be an evening of laughter and celebration at a birthday gathering in Lucknow ended in tragedy when a 13-year-old boy, Unaiz  Kha,  lost his life after being struck by a bullet.

The shocking incident has left residents stunned and has sparked serious doubts about whether the shooting was truly accidental.

The incident took place on Monday evening when the young victim, a Class VII student, had gone to attend a friend’s birthday party at a house in the city.

According to the police, the boy had joined three of his friends at the residence to celebrate the occasion, unaware that the night would end in a devastating turn of events.

A Party That Ended in Tragedy

Preliminary findings suggest that during the gathering, the children allegedly gained access to a revolver belonging to the birthday boy’s father. The weapon had reportedly been kept inside the man’s car parked at the house.

Investigators believe the boys took the gun into a room and began handling it while playing. At some point, the firearm discharged, and a bullet struck the 13-year-old directly in the middle of his forehead.

The injured child was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Police initially suspected that the tragedy might have been the result of an unintentional discharge while the children were handling the weapon.

However, the circumstances surrounding the shooting have quickly raised questions among both the victim’s family and residents of the neighbourhood.

FIR Filed Under Murder Charges

Despite the possibility of an accident, authorities have registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to murder.

The complaint was lodged by the victim’s father, following which the police named three of the boy’s friends who were present at the party in the First Information Report. The FIR also includes the parents of the birthday boy and their driver.

All individuals mentioned in the complaint are currently being questioned as investigators attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting.

Father Rejects ‘Accident’ Theory

The grieving father, who runs a small electrical shop, has strongly rejected the idea that the shooting was accidental.

According to him, his son had been observing roza (fast) but still insisted on attending the birthday celebration because he did not want to disappoint his friend.

Earlier that evening, three boys had come to their house to pick up his son. Later in the night, the father said he received a WhatsApp call from the birthday boy’s father asking him to come to the hospital immediately.

“When we reached the hospital, we were not even allowed to see our child for a long time,” he alleged. “After considerable delay, the police finally showed us his body. There was a bullet wound right in the centre of his forehead.”

The father insists that such a precise shot could not have occurred simply because children were playing with a weapon.

Local Residents Raise Doubts

Many residents in the neighbourhood have also expressed suspicion that the shooting may involve deeper circumstances than what appears at first glance.

The deceased was picked up by his friends from his house, even though his father was reluctant. Unaiz was observing Roza, but his friends still persuaded him to join them.

Some locals believe it is possible that tensions or grudges may have existed among the boys, and that the availability of the firearm may have provided an opportunity for something far more sinister.

According to this line of thinking, the presence of the father’s gun and the privacy of a birthday gathering may have created the conditions for an act that was later presented as accidental.

Residents say the fact that the bullet struck the victim squarely in the forehead raises troubling questions.

Firearms generally discharge only when the trigger is deliberately pulled, and the accuracy of the shot has led some to question whether it could truly have been a careless mishandling of the weapon.

Allegations of Influence

Adding to the controversy, the victim’s father has alleged that the family of the boy hosting the party has strong political connections.

He claimed that the accused child’s father had previously threatened him during a parent-teacher meeting at school, though he did not elaborate on the reason for the dispute.

The father also stated that government officials had assured him that action would be taken swiftly in the case.

“If this incident had happened in our house, the authorities would have acted immediately,” he said. “Let us see what happens now.”

Police Begin Detailed Investigation

Senior police officials have said that all allegations are being taken seriously and will be thoroughly examined during the investigation.

Nipun Agarwal confirmed that authorities received information about the boy’s death following a gunshot incident and that a case has been registered based on the family’s complaint.

The weapon used in the shooting, which is licensed and registered in the name of the house owner, has been seized by the police and will undergo ballistic testing.

Officers are also reviewing CCTV recordings from the residence to determine the precise chain of events leading up to the shooting.

Meanwhile, the parents of the birthday boy and their driver are being questioned as part of the ongoing probe.

Post-Mortem Conducted

A panel of doctors carried out the post-mortem examination, which was videographed to ensure transparency. After the procedure was completed, the body was handed over to the family for the final rites.

For now, the case remains shrouded in uncertainty.
