BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Spreading Misinformation, Acting as ‘Propaganda Tool’ for Pakistan
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday launched a sharp attack against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of propagating misinformation and echoing Pakistani narratives, following his remarks questioning the government’s handling of Operation Sindoor.
Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, posted on X (formerly Twitter) an undated video clip of External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, alleging that the government had informed Pakistan before the military operation.
“Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime. EAM has publicly admitted that GOI did it. Who authorised it? How many aircraft did our air force lose as a result?” Gandhi wrote in the post.
BJP Responds: “Fake News and Anti-India Propaganda”
In response, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused Gandhi of spreading falsehoods and questioned his stance on India’s efforts to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan.
“Stop spreading fake news, Rahul Gandhi,” Bhandari posted on X. “Is the Congress upset that Operation Sindoor successfully demolished terror camps in Pakistan?”
Bhandari further referenced a post from the PIB Fact Check Unit, which had earlier labelled similar claims as misleading. According to the government’s official clarification, the interpretation that India informed Pakistan before the operation was incorrect and based on a misquote of Jaishankar’s statements.
“EAM is being misquoted. He did not say what is being alleged. People should remain alert and not fall for deceptive information,” the PIB Fact Check Unit stated.
BJP Links Gandhi’s Remarks to Historical Allegations
In a series of follow-up posts, Bhandari took a dig at Gandhi’s political legacy, alleging a pattern of anti-national behavior.
“Old habits die hard. Rahul Gandhi, who was partying after the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and who was once quoted by Pakistan’s military in its press briefing, is once again raising questions about our armed forces,” Bhandari wrote.
BJP Spokesperson: “Congress Speaking for Pakistan”
Adding to the criticism, BJP’s Ajay Alok also condemned Gandhi’s remarks in a video message shared on X. He claimed that Gandhi was effectively acting as a spokesperson for Pakistan and accused the Congress party of consistently undermining India’s interests.
“Rahul Gandhi, stop being a propaganda tool for Pakistan. You and your party have been doing this for three generations,” Alok said.
Context: Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor refers to a recent Indian military action reportedly aimed at neutralizing terror networks across the border.
The government has claimed it was a successful mission, while the Congress party has repeatedly demanded transparency and accountability in the operation’s execution.
The exchange marks the latest episode in the growing political tension between the ruling BJP and the Congress, with national security once again emerging as a flashpoint in their ongoing rivalry.
