Bomb Threat Emails Trigger Massive Security Sweep Across Vadodara Schools Ahead of Board Exams
Authorities in Vadodara launched a large-scale security operation on Monday after more than 18 schools across the city and the surrounding district received identical emails warning of coordinated bomb explosions.
While such messages are increasingly being reported in recent times, officials said every alert is treated seriously to ensure public safety.
Police and cybercrime teams immediately began tracing the source of the messages and registered an FIR. The emails reached 14 institutions within the city limits and at least four schools in nearby district areas early in the morning — just a day before CBSE Class 10 and 12 examinations were scheduled to begin.
Among the schools that received threats were DR Amin School, Urmi School, Nalanda School, Baroda High School (Bagikhana), Navyug School, Jeevan Sadhna, Shannen School, Bright Day School, Atmiya Vidyalaya, Don Bosco Makarpura, Billabong, Auxilium Convent, Zenith School, American School, Green Valley School, GPS, and AWS Dabhoi.
Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar visited the Don Bosco campus in Makarpura and confirmed a criminal complaint had been lodged.
He said multiple agencies — the cybercrime unit, CERT-I,n and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre — would conduct a detailed investigation to identify the sender and motive.
Police teams, including Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads, were deployed to check the premises. Officials reported sanitisation of several campuses while inspections at others continued.
Despite the alarming message, no suspicious objects were discovered.
According to officers, the email received around 7 am claimed explosives would detonate at 1:11 pm, and even alleged bombs had been placed in vehicles and school buses in both Vadodara and Ahmedabad.
Managing simultaneous checks at numerous locations posed logistical challenges, they added.
As a precaution, most institutions shut down oforthe day, and parents were called to pick up students.
One school principal said the message was noticed shortly after classes began,n and authorities were immediately informed before children were safely dispersed.
Police said the content appears mischievous but assured parents and administrators that security arrangements are in place so academic activities and examinations proceed without disruption.
