Mumbai: Bollywood filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has found herself at the center of controversy after a criminal complaint was filed against her for allegedly making derogatory remarks about the Hindu festival of Holi. The complaint has been lodged by Vikash Fhatak, popularly known as Hindustani Bhau, through his legal representative, Advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh.

According to the latest reports, the complaint was formally registered today at the Khar Police Station in Mumbai. The complaint seeks legal action against Khan over her controversial statement, which was allegedly made during an episode of the television show Celebrity MasterChef on February 20.

In his complaint, Vikash Fhatak claims that Farah Khan referred to Holi as “a festival for the Chhapris.” The term “Chhapris” is widely considered derogatory and is often used to belittle individuals. Fhatak argues that this comment was offensive and deeply hurt the sentiments of Hindu devotees who celebrate Holi with religious and cultural significance.

Hindustani Bhau has publicly voiced his dissatisfaction with Khan’s remarks, emphasizing that such statements from influential public figures can lead to social discord and hurt the emotions of millions of Hindus who revere Holi as a sacred festival. He has urged authorities to take strict legal action against Khan for her alleged disrespectful statement.

The controversy has sparked significant reactions from both supporters and critics of Farah Khan. While some argue that freedom of speech should be upheld, others believe that influential figures must exercise responsibility in their public statements, especially regarding religious festivals. Social media platforms have been abuzz with discussions, with many calling for Khan to issue a public apology.

Legal experts suggest that if the complaint proceeds further, Khan may face charges under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to hurting religious sentiments and promoting enmity between communities. Such cases, though common in India’s entertainment industry, often lead to prolonged legal battles and public debates.

As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the legal authorities will respond to the complaint. Given the high-profile nature of the case and the involvement of a well-known Bollywood personality, the situation may continue to draw widespread media attention. Meanwhile, supporters of Hindustani Bhau and others who were offended by the remarks are eagerly awaiting a response from Farah Khan.

The debate over the responsibility of celebrities in making public statements, particularly about religious and cultural topics, continues to be a significant issue in India’s media landscape. Whether Farah Khan chooses to apologize, clarify her remarks, or contest the allegations in court will determine the next chapter in this unfolding controversy.
