Center of Excellence in Kokhraj, Kaushambi: A Landmark Initiative for Modern Horticulture in Uttar Pradesh
Prayagraj/ Kaushambi : A new Center of Excellence has been established in Kokhraj, Kaushambi district of Prayagraj, signaling a transformative step towards modern horticulture and fruit cultivation in Uttar Pradesh.
Spread across ten hectares of fertile land, this ambitious project has been developed in collaboration with Israel, a nation globally recognized for its pioneering advancements in agriculture and horticultural innovation.
Annual Production of 50,000 Fruit Plants
According to officials, the facility is designed to produce approximately 50,000 high-quality fruit-bearing plants every year. These saplings will be distributed among farmers across the region, ensuring access to disease-resistant, high-yield varieties that can significantly increase agricultural productivity.
The Horticulture Department has already initiated preparations to cultivate and nurture a wide range of fruit species at the centre.
Kaushambi’s Natural Advantage in Fruit Farming
Kaushambi district already enjoys a strong reputation in the horticultural landscape of Uttar Pradesh. It is renowned for its lush mango orchards, sweet guava plantations, and the extensive cultivation of bananas. Building on this strong agricultural base, the government selected this region for the establishment of the Centre of Excellence.
The initiative aims to integrate cutting-edge agricultural technology with the traditional farming practices of the area, thereby ensuring improved yields, better quality produce, and enhanced profitability for farmers.
High-Tech Infrastructure for Superior Plants
Unlike traditional nurseries, the Center of Excellence will be equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure. This includes:
- Modern nurseries with advanced propagation systems
- Poly houses and net houses for controlled cultivation
- Climate-regulated facilities to protect plants from adverse conditions
- Integrated pest management systems for healthier crops
These arrangements will guarantee the production of robust, disease-resistant, and high-performing saplings that can withstand local challenges while offering farmers superior quality planting material.
Expert Insights
Highlighting the significance of this project, V.K. Singh, Horticulture In-Charge of Khusrobag, explained that consignments of fruit plants will be prepared and supplied annually from the nursery within the centre.
He emphasized that the saplings grown here will not only belong to superior horticultural varieties but will also demonstrate greater resilience against pests and diseases compared to ordinary plants.
Collaboration with Israel: A Global Benchmark
Experts note that Israel is far ahead of many countries in the field of modern agriculture. Its expertise in micro-irrigation systems, water conservation techniques, plant protection methods, and crop management strategies has been widely acknowledged.
Over recent years, India has increasingly collaborated with Israel to introduce these technologies into its farming practices. The establishment of this Centre in Kaushambi is part of this larger vision to bring world-class agricultural solutions directly to Indian farmers.
Economic and Social Impact
With the launch of the Center of Excellence, Prayagraj and Kaushambi are poised to emerge as key hubs for advanced fruit cultivation in Uttar Pradesh. Farmers in the region will directly benefit from easy access to high-yield, disease-resistant, and quality fruit plants.
This is expected to boost farm incomes, strengthen the horticultural economy, and create a ripple effect of prosperity across rural communities.
Beyond its immediate agricultural impact, the project reflects the state government’s broader commitment to modernizing agriculture, empowering farmers, and making Uttar Pradesh a leader in fruit cultivation and horticultural exports in the coming years.
