Chennai Super Kings Launch Hall of Fame to Honour Legends Suresh Raina and Matthew Hayden
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have taken a nostalgic step to celebrate the icons who shaped the franchise’s remarkable journey in the Indian Premier League.
The franchise has instituted a prestigious Hall of Fame, aimed at recognising players who have made significant contributions to CSK’s enduring legacy and success in the world’s most competitive T20 league.
Among the inaugural inductees into this elite honour are two stalwarts of the franchise — Suresh Raina and Matthew Hayden — both of whom played defining roles in shaping CSK’s dominance during the formative years of the IPL.
Suresh Raina, fondly known as Mr IPL for his consistency and match-winning abilities, remains one of the most prolific performers in CSK’s history.
The elegant left-handed middle-order batsman amassed 5,529 runs across 13 seasons for the franchise between 2008 and 2021, making him one of the highest run-scorers for CSK and among the leading Indian batsmen in the league’s history.
Renowned not only for his fluent stroke play but also for his exceptional athleticism on the field, Raina set high standards with his sharp fielding and ability to change the course of a match through his all-around presence.
His ability to anchor innings as well as accelerate when required made him an indispensable pillar of CSK’s batting line-up.
Australian opening great Matthew Hayden also left a lasting impact during his stint with the franchise between 2008 and 2010. Known for his imposing presence at the crease and fearless stroke-making, Hayden scored 1,117 runs for CSK, providing explosive starts that often set the tone for the team’s performances.
His most memorable season came in 2009, when he accumulated 572 runs and claimed the prestigious Orange Cap as the tournament’s highest run-scorer.
Hayden’s aggressive batting style endeared him to fans and contributed significantly to CSK’s rise as one of the most formidable teams in the league.
CSK’s golden chapter began soon after, as the franchise lifted its first IPL title in 2010, marking the beginning of an era of sustained excellence.
