Bahariya (Prayagraj): A tragic road accident claimed the life of a Class 12 student on Tuesday when she was run over by a speeding truck while returning home after visiting her examination centre for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Board exams.

The deceased, 17-year-old Vaishnavi Maurya, was riding on a motorcycle with her cousin brother,

Pradeep Maurya, who sustained serious injuries in the incident. Following the accident, the truck driver fled the scene along with the vehicle.

Police have registered an FIR against an unidentified truck driver.

Vaishnavi, also known as Anupam, was the daughter of Shailendra Maurya, a resident of Saraigani under the Bahariya police station limits.

She was a Class 12 student at RS Anand Huberaji Sanwari Sanskar Inter College, Mailaha. Her cousin brother, 20-year-old Pradeep, son of Amarnath Maurya and a resident of Devra Daulatpur, was also studying in Class 12.

The Uttar Pradesh Board examinations are scheduled to commence from February 18. Pradeep’s examination centre had been allotted at Kaushalya Devi Ramarani Maurya Inter College, Dhamour.

On Tuesday, Vaishnavi accompanied Pradeep on a motorcycle to visit his examination centre. At around 2 p.m., while they were returning home, a speeding truck collided with their motorcycle near Dhamour turn, close to Saraigani village.

The impact of the collision caused the motorcycle to lose control, throwing Vaishnavi onto the middle of the road.

The truck ran over her and sped away. Pradeep sustained critical injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital for treatment.

Vaishnavi aspired to pursue higher studies and become a doctor. She had dreamed of opening a hospital to serve the needy and underprivileged and to bring pride to her family.

However, the horrific accident not only ended her life but also shattered her dreams. Her untimely death has left her family devastated and inconsolable.

Shailendra Maurya, who runs a medical store in Bahariya market, said that Vaishnavi was the eldest among his four children and had been academically bright since childhood.

She often told her father that she would study hard to become a renowned doctor and make her parents proud. She also encouraged her younger sister, Shreya, and her two brothers,

Shivendra and Ved are to focus on their studies and aspire to become doctors. Fighting back tears, Shailendra said he never imagined that his daughter would leave the world after nurturing such big dreams.

Vaishnavi’s mother, Pushpa Devi, repeatedly fainted while mourning her daughter’s loss.

Family members further stated that Vaishnavi and her aunt’s son, Pradeep, studied in the same school and were classmates. Vaishnavi always supported Pradeep in his studies.
