Lucknow:
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has strongly condemned illegal religious conversions, calling them a “calculated conspiracy” designed to undermine India’s cultural identity and disturb the harmony of its social structure.
Speaking from his official residence in Lucknow, where he flagged off the UP-Delhi Shri Tegh Bahadur Sandesh Yatra, the Chief Minister marked the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur with a fervent message about the importance of protecting India’s spiritual legacy.

Addressing the gathering, Adityanath warned that certain organised forces are intentionally promoting unlawful conversions as a way to alter the foundational ethos of the nation. “Such activities are not just unlawful—they represent a direct assault on our social unity and collective consciousness,” he said. “They will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”

The Chief Minister pointed out that marginalised communities, particularly those belonging to Scheduled Castes, are often the targets of these conversion campaigns. He stated that individuals from these groups are being lured or coerced into abandoning their native faiths, which stands in contradiction to the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution, especially the ideals of equality and religious freedom.

Citing a recent investigation in Balrampur, Adityanath referred to a conversion racket allegedly run by Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba, describing him as the “mastermind” behind a large-scale operation.
According to the Chief Minister, the accused had established “pre-determined rates” for converting individuals, and more than ₹100 crore had reportedly changed hands through 40 different bank accounts involved in the scheme.
“This is not just a matter of religion,” the CM emphasized. “It is a direct threat to our economic integrity and social security.”

Yogi Adityanath linked the occasion of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom to a broader narrative of resistance against religious oppression. He recalled the tyranny of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, whose reign sought to impose Islamic supremacy by suppressing Sanatan Dharma. Through the Shri Tegh Bahadur Sandesh Yatra, the Chief Minister said, the state seeks to revive the message of resistance and sacrifice.
“Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji made the ultimate sacrifice,” he said. “He chose death over religious conversion, standing tall in the face of imperial tyranny. His martyrdom reminds us of the importance of safeguarding our spiritual values and resisting every attempt to dilute them.”

The Chief Minister concluded by urging citizens to remain vigilant, informed, and united, as he warned that such conspiracies—whether from within or outside—are not new and are likely to continue. The yatra, he said, is not just a tribute, but a symbol of resolve, reinforcing the need to stand guard over India’s spiritual and cultural identity.
