CM Yogi Adityanath Issues Stern Directives on Law, Order, and Development During Varanasi Visit
During his two-day visit to Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a high-level review meeting with government officials and public representatives, where he emphasized the need for stringent law enforcement, development oversight, and enhanced public safety measures.
The directives came in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, a recently conducted military initiative, and the CM used the occasion to reinforce the government’s firm stance on terrorism, cow smuggling, illegal mining, and extremist elements.
Tough Stance on Urban Naxals and Cow Smugglers
Addressing officials, Adityanath called for a heightened state of alert across the Varanasi zone. Referring to the influence of “urban naxals”—a term used for individuals in urban areas who support Maoist ideologies through professional or social platforms—the Chief Minister instructed authorities to take strict and uncompromising action against such individuals and the organizations they are linked to.
He also ordered a comprehensive crackdown on cow smuggling, particularly in border districts, and suggested that vehicles seized in such cases, along with assets linked to smugglers and their associates, should be auctioned according to legal procedures.
Criminal Activity and Safe City Campaign
The CM urged police officials to intensify efforts against common urban crimes, such as robbery, chain snatching, and other public safety concerns. As part of the Safe City initiative, he stressed the need for increased surveillance, especially through the installation of an adequate number of CCTV cameras, and insisted on thorough verification of suspicious individuals in high-risk areas.
Praise for Operation Sindoor and National Security Posture
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Adityanath lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation, interpreting it as a decisive statement of India’s new anti-terrorism policy.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, Adityanath declared it as more than a military action—it represented a national vow to protect the dignity and safety of Indian women.
“Operation Sindoor is a pledge that if anyone dares to wipe the sacred sindoor from the foreheads of our daughters and sisters, they will be reduced to dust,” he said.
The CM emphasized that India will no longer remain silent in the face of provocation and that “every blow will now be answered on our terms.”
Focus on Development Projects and Urban Planning
In addition to law enforcement, Adityanath reviewed the status of 60 ongoing development projects in Varanasi. He stressed that all projects must be completed within the set deadlines while ensuring the highest standards of construction quality and safety.
He directed officials to:
- Conduct regular reviews of ongoing projects.
- Appoint nodal officers to monitor quality standards.
- Ensure that construction safety norms are rigorously followed.
The Chief Minister also paid a visit to the National Aging Center at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), underscoring his government’s commitment to welfare across age groups.
Water, Sanitation, and Housing Initiatives
Under the ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal Yojana’, a mission to provide piped drinking water to every household, Adityanath asked the Jal Nigam and public representatives to jointly inspect at least four villages each and personally verify the quality of the work being done.
In terms of urban infrastructure, the CM instructed that sewerage work in the Ramnagar-Sujabad region be expedited without delay.
He also proposed the development of a new township near the upcoming international cricket stadium in the Ganjari area, aimed at enhancing residential and commercial growth.
Plans for New Markets and Organized Vendor Spaces
Highlighting the need for structured urban commerce, the Chief Minister suggested that a new market be developed on 84 acres of land currently owned by the Central Jail.
He advised the Varanasi Development Authority to procure suitable commercial plots where fruit, vegetable, and milk vendors could operate in an organized, designated manner. This would help reduce urban congestion and offer hygienic facilities to both vendors and consumers.
Overall, CM Yogi Adityanath’s visit to Varanasi showcased a dual focus on tightening law and order, with special emphasis on national security, crime prevention, and extremist threats, while simultaneously pushing forward an agenda of planned urban development, infrastructure improvement, and citizen welfare.
