Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a comprehensive inspection of the under-construction Ganga Expressway on Sunday, directing officials and construction agencies to ensure that the ambitious infrastructure project is completed within the stipulated timeline while adhering to the highest standards of quality.

The Chief Minister personally traveled by car along sections of the expressway to review the construction firsthand and assess the quality of work being carried out.

He was also briefed about the incorporation of advanced German technology into the project and took time to interact with workers on site.

CM Yogi reviewed progress across three major districts — Hardoi, Shahjahanpur, and Hapur. In Shahjahanpur, he conducted an aerial survey of the construction zone, which includes a 3.5-kilometer-long airstrip being built as part of the expressway infrastructure.

Notably, this airstrip is scheduled to host an airshow on May 2 and 3. Officials revealed that a night landing — a first for any expressway airstrip in India — is also planned at the site during the event, in the presence of the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister was accompanied during the inspection by Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, senior officials of the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), and elected representatives from the respective districts.

The Ganga Expressway, one of the most significant infrastructure initiatives in the state, will span a total length of 594 kilometers.

It will connect the western city of Meerut to Prayagraj in the east, thus creating a high-speed transportation corridor across the breadth of Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the project in Shahjahanpur on December 18, 2021.

The expressway will begin at Bijauli village on the Meerut-Bulandshahr road (NH-334) and terminate at Judapur Dandu village near the Prayagraj Bypass (NH-19).

It is being developed under the Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti Yojana, aimed at enhancing multimodal connectivity and economic efficiency.

In total, the expressway will connect 12 major cities across Uttar Pradesh — Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj — and will traverse 518 villages.

Spread across 7,453.15 hectares, the Ganga Expressway is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore and is expected to significantly boost connectivity, logistics, and regional development across the state.
