In a major push towards strengthening public healthcare infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for seven ambitious healthcare projects worth Rs 941 crore at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow.
These developments mark a significant leap in emergency medical care, super-speciality treatment, diagnostics, and healthcare training in the state.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister and Medical & Health Minister Brajesh Pathak and KGMU Vice Chancellor Prof. Sonia Nityanand, the Chief Minister presided over a public ceremony where he reiterated the government’s commitment to making Uttar Pradesh a hub for modern medical care.
New Trauma Centre to Expand Emergency Care: 500 Additional Beds
One of the most critical projects flagged off was the foundation stone-laying ceremony for KGMU’s second trauma centre, known as Trauma Centre-2. Responding to the ever-growing pressure on emergency services at the university, this new facility will be a seven-storey, state-of-the-art building with an estimated cost of Rs 273 crore, and is expected to be completed within two years.
The new trauma facility will offer 500 additional trauma care beds, significantly relieving the burden on the existing centre, where patients are often treated on stretchers due to space constraints. Once operational, Trauma Centre-2 will include:
-
Nine fully equipped operation theatres (OTs)
-
Fire safety and alarm systems
-
A modern sewage treatment plant (STP) and effluent treatment plant (ETP)
-
#EmergencyCare infrastructure designed for critical cases
To enhance patient and caregiver convenience, a Patient Utility Complex will be established within the centre, including a waiting area, dining space, kitchen, and a café. Additionally, a multi-level parking facility with a capacity of over 250 vehicles will support traffic and mobility on campus.
This facility is designed as a Category-1 emergency centre, capable of handling severe trauma cases from road accidents, industrial disasters, and natural calamities, setting a new standard in #TraumaCare for the state and country.
New Rs 105-Crore Advanced Cardiology Wing Inaugurated

According to Prof. Sonia Nityanand, Lari Cardiology’s 84-bed capacity has been consistently overwhelmed. With the new wing, the number of ICCU (Intensive Coronary Care Unit) beds doubles to 176, ensuring better access and faster care for heart patients.
The new cardiology centre features:
