Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the Indian National Congress, accusing it of indulging in “anti-national activities” and assisting illegal Bangladeshi migrants in settling in Assam.

He asserted that the BJP-led government is fully committed to protecting Assam’s land, identity, and dignity.

Addressing a public rally in Namrup after inaugurating a ₹10,601-crore fertiliser plant in Dibrugarh district, the Prime Minister said that the Congress had failed to modernise the old fertiliser unit or find solutions to farmers’ long-pending problems during its tenure.

“The Congress is involved in activities that weaken the nation. It is trying to settle illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Assam only to strengthen its vote bank.

The party has no concern for the people,” Modi said. He added that the opposition has no respect for the identity, existence, or pride of the Assamese people—values that the BJP has consistently worked to protect.

The Prime Minister further alleged that the Congress is opposing the revision of voter lists because it is desperate to cling to power.

“They oppose every good step taken by my government. But the BJP government will always work to safeguard the identity, land, pride, and existence of the Assamese people,” he said.

“Correcting Congress’ Mistakes Still Ongoing”

On the second and final day of his Assam visit, Modi said that the Congress had inflicted such deep damage on the country that even after 11 years of efforts to correct its mistakes, much work remains unfinished.

Namrup Fertiliser Plant to Create Thousands of Jobs

Highlighting the developmental impact of the project, the Prime Minister said that industrialisation and improved connectivity are fulfilling Assam’s aspirations.

He credited the BJP’s “double-engine government” for empowering youth to dream bigger.

“The Namrup urea plant will greatly benefit local farmers and generate thousands of employment opportunities for the youth of Assam,” he said, adding that such projects are transforming the economic landscape of the state.\

Assam’s Black Tea Gifted to President Putin

Recalling a recent diplomatic moment, Modi said that when Russian President Vladimir Putin visited India, he was gifted Assam’s renowned black tea.

Emphasising the importance of the region, the Prime Minister said, “India’s development is impossible without the development of the Northeast.”

He added that the benefits of development are now reaching even the most remote areas of the country. “Due to our continuous efforts, 25 crore people have been lifted out of poverty, and a new middle class has emerged in India,” Modi said.

Tribute to Assam Movement Martyrs

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister paid homage to the martyrs of the Assam Movement at the Assam Movement Martyrs’ Memorial in Guwahati. The movement was launched against illegal immigration.

Modi offered floral tributes before the eternal flame that commemorates 860 people who laid down their lives during the six-year-long movement, which concluded in 1985. He spent nearly 20 minutes at the memorial complex, paying respects and touring the site.
