Deadly Blaze Near Palam Metro Claims Six Lives; Series of Fire Incidents Raise Concerns in Delhi

A tragic fire accident in the national capital has once again highlighted the growing concerns over safety in densely populated areas. Early Wednesday morning, a devastating blaze engulfed a multi-storey residential building in southwest Delhi, resulting in multiple fatalities and prompting a large-scale emergency response.

Officials confirmed that at least six individuals lost their lives after a fire erupted in a residential complex located close to Palam Metro Station.

According to the Delhi Fire Service, an emergency alert was received around 7 a.m., following which nearly 30 fire engines were rushed to the location to control the flames.

Rescue teams reported that around five to six occupants were initially trapped inside the structure as firefighters battled the intense blaze.

Despite efforts to contain the fire and carry out rescue operations, authorities later verified that six people had succumbed.

The incident adds to a series of recent fire-related tragedies across Delhi. Earlier this month, during the Holi festival, two people were burned alive when a fire broke out in a plastic toy storage facility in the Sadar Bazaar area of central Delhi.

In another case reported on March 4, a teenage girl died after a blaze swept through a JJ cluster in Rohini, situated in northwest Delhi.

On March 12, a significant fire incident occurred in a slum cluster at Mansa Ram Park near the fish market in Matiala, in southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. The fire destroyed nearly 80 makeshift dwellings, although fortunately, no casualties were reported in that case.

Just days later, on March 15, flames broke out at the well-known Dastkar Nature Bazaar in Mehrauli, damaging approximately 40 stalls that sold a variety of handcrafted goods, including Pashmina shawls, Afghan carpets, and home décor items.

Artisans from different parts of the country suffered losses worth several crores as their merchandise was reduced to ashes.

The fire at the bazaar occurred only hours before the venue was scheduled to open for its ongoing craft fair, titled “Bonanza Bazaar.” In the aftermath of the incident, organizers decided to call off the remaining two days of the exhibition.
