Death Threat to Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary Triggers Security Alert; Probe Launched
Amid a series of recent hoax and threat alerts targeting schools and airlines in Delhi and other parts of the country, which have kept law enforcement agencies on high alert and stretched security resources in recent months, the latest one has come to the Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary.
An unidentified caller prompted security agencies to heighten vigilance and initiate an investigation. The matter came to light after his personal aide filed a complaint at the Tughlak Road Police Station in New Delhi.
According to the caller, who identified himself as Ismail from Murshidabad in West Bengal—allegedly informed the aide that he possessed details of the minister’s official travel schedule.
Authorities have reached out to West Bengal Police and sought their assistance in tracing the suspect.
In the complaint, Vishvendra Shah stated that he received the threatening call from an unknown number around 11 am on March 18.
During the conversation, the caller allegedly warned of an assassination attempt targeting Chaudhary, who holds the positions of Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship as well as Minister of State for Education.
The complaint further mentioned that the caller referred to certain documents shared via WhatsApp and spoke about the use of advanced firearms, including an MP5, claiming these would be used in executing the attack. The call reportedly ended suddenly soon after.
Shah also noted that upon reviewing WhatsApp communications, he found what appeared to be the minister’s official tour itinerary along with a chilling message that read “shoot him.”
The sender had also shared a location pin and multiple audio clips, all containing repeated threats to kill the minister.
When contacted again, the individual allegedly claimed that the sensitive travel details had been provided by his “higher command,” raising serious concerns about a possible leak of confidential information.
The complaint additionally flagged suspicious activity near the minister’s residence. It stated that unknown persons appeared to be monitoring the house in the days leading up to the threat.
Around three days before the incident, a white Maruti Suzuki Swift with darkened windows was reportedly seen stationed near the residence for a prolonged duration between 9 pm and 10 pm.
The occupants of the vehicle were allegedly keeping the property under watch, suggesting possible pre-planning.
Considering the seriousness of the threat, officials have been urged to carry out a swift and comprehensive inquiry to ensure the safety of the minister and those around him.
A senior police officer confirmed that the complaint, along with all supporting materials such as messages and audio recordings, has been received and is being examined as part of the investigation.
Police teams are also analysing CCTV footage and other digital evidence to track down the origin of the threat and identify those involved.
