In a tragic incident on the night of October 18, 2025, a love triangle in Delhi’s Nabi Karim area escalated into a fatal confrontation, resulting in the deaths of a pregnant woman and her former live-in partner.

The woman’s husband, who was also injured, managed to overpower the attacker, leading to further loss of life.

The Incident

At approximately 10:15 PM, Shalini (22) and her husband, Aakash (23), were en route to visit Shalini’s mother on Qutub Road. During their journey, Shalini’s former live-in partner, Aashu (34), confronted them.

Aashu initially attacked Aakash with a knife; however, Aakash managed to evade the assault. The attacker then turned his aggression towards Shalini, who was seated in an e-rickshaw, and stabbed her multiple times. In a desperate attempt to save his wife, Aakash intervened but was also stabbed during the ensuing struggle.

Despite his injuries, Aakash managed to overpower Aashu and allegedly used the same knife to fatally wound him.

All three individuals were rushed to Lady Hardinge Medical College Hospital by Shalini’s brother, Rohit. Tragically, both Shalini and Aashu were declared dead upon arrival. Aakash remains under medical care for his stab wounds.

Background and Motive

Preliminary investigations suggest that Shalini and Aakash had been attempting to reconcile after a period of estrangement. During their separation, Shalini had been in a live-in relationship with Aashu outside Delhi.

It is alleged that Aashu became enraged upon Shalini’s decision to return to her husband and claimed to be the father of her pregnancy. This claim may have fueled the violent confrontation.

Shalini and Aakash were married and had two children. At the time of her death, Shalini was pregnant with their third child.

Aashu, known to the Nabi Karim police as a “bad character” with a criminal background, had a history of violent behavior. Aakash also has three prior criminal cases against him.

Legal Proceedings

Based on the statement of Shalini’s mother, Sheila, an FIR has been registered under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The police have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the sequence of events leading to the fatal confrontation.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Nidhin Valsan, stated, “It appears to be a case arising from personal enmity and relationship disputes. The investigation is underway, and all aspects are being probed.”

A Similar Incident

This incident mirrors a previous case in Delhi where a love triangle led to tragic consequences.

In 2024, a 20-year-old woman named Sonia was murdered by her lover, Salim, who had posed as a Hindu man named Sanju to deceive her. After establishing a relationship and impregnating her, Salim promised to marry her.

However, when Sonia insisted on marriage, Salim killed her with the help of two accomplices.

This case, like the recent one, highlights the dangers of deceit and unrequited love leading to fatal outcomes.

The incident in Nabi Karim underscores the complexities and potential dangers of personal relationships.

It serves as a stark reminder of how unresolved emotions and past relationships can escalate into violence. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic event to ensure justice is served.
