Senior BJP leader and former Independent MP Navneet Rana on Tuesday triggered a sharp political debate after urging Hindus to have at least three to four children, arguing that this was necessary to counter what she described as a deliberate attempt by certain groups to alter India’s demographic balance.
Speaking to reporters in response to a query, Rana claimed that some individuals openly boast about having multiple wives and a large number of children, which she alleged was part of a broader plan to “turn Hindustan into Pakistan” through demographic dominance.
“I appeal to all Hindus,” Rana said. “When people openly say they have four wives and 19 children, we should not remain complacent.
If they are increasing their numbers with a purpose, then Hindus should also consider having at least three to four children.”

Navneet Rana, who represented Amravati in Maharashtra as an Independent MP before aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party, has often made headlines for her outspoken and hardline views on religion, nationalism, and identity politics.

“I don’t know whether the person is a Maulana or something else,” she said, “but he himself admitted he has four wives and 19 children and even joked that he couldn’t complete a quorum of 30.
If this is the thinking, then why should Hindus restrict themselves?”
She framed her appeal as a defensive response rather than an aggressive call, asserting that demographic awareness was essential to preserve India’s cultural and national identity.
