DGP UP and SSP Saharanpur directed to appear in Allahabad HC

On a contempt petition, the Allahabad High Court has directed the director general of police (DGP), UP, and superintendent of police (SSP), Saharanpur to appear before the court on January 27, 202,5 along with their personal affidavit for not complying with the previous order of the court.
It is alleged that despite the court’s order dated May 15, 2024, the case of the applicant is not being investigated by the police officers concerned.
Hearing a contempt petition filed by one Alka Sethi and another, Justice Salil Kumar Rai directed to list this case on January 27, 2025.
Earlier, the high court in its order dated May 15, 2024, had directed that the FIR lodged by the applicant in case crime no- 121 of May 6, 202,2, and case crime no- 138 of May 19, 2022, in police station-Biharigarh against the revenue officers and also the complaints made on IGRS/Dashboard on August 12, 202,2 and January 27, 20,23 needs to be properly investigated. The court had also asked the DGP to get the matter investigated by the concerned senior superintendent of police. The investigation may be completed preferably within 4 months frthe om passing of this order.
In the present contempt petition, it has been stated in the affidavit filed in support of the contempt application that no steps have yet been taken by the Director General of Police and the First Information Reports registered at the instance of the applicant are not being investigated either by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Saharanpur or any other police officer.
Taking a serious note of disobedience of the court’s order, Justice Salil Kumar Rai in his order dated December 20 issued notice to the director general of police, UP Lucknow, and the senior superintendent of police (SSP), Saharanpur, fixing January 27, 202,5 to answer as to why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them for violation of the order passed by this court.
