Uttar Pradesh Economy Grows 2.5 Times in Nine Years

Lucknow: Over the past 9 years, Uttar Pradesh’s economy has expanded by more than 2.5 times.

Presenting the Economic Survey in the Assembly for the first time on Monday, Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said the state’s economy, which stood at ₹13.30 lakh crore in the financial year 2016–17, has grown more than twofold to ₹30.25 lakh crore in 2024–25.

It is projected to cross ₹36 lakh crore in 2025–26.

Placing the figures from the Economic Survey for 2025–26 before the House, the Finance Minister said that Uttar Pradesh’s economy rests on a strong foundation.

Balanced growth across agriculture, industry, and the services sector has propelled the state to new heights.

According to the report, Uttar Pradesh’s contribution to the national economy has also increased—from 8.6% in 2016–17 to 9.1% in 2024–25.

Through the data presented in the Economic Survey, the government outlined not only the current financial position of the state but also its future roadmap.

To achieve the goal of a developed Uttar Pradesh, the government will place special emphasis on investment, employment, and sustainable development.

Priority will be given to the digital economy and green energy initiatives.

Youth will be empowered through skill development programmes and startup schemes to promote self-reliance.

Per Capita Income to Reach ₹1.20 Lakh This Financial Year:
Citing the report, Suresh Khanna said that the state’s per capita income, which was ₹54,564 in 2016–17, has doubled over eight years to reach ₹1,09,844 in 2024–25.

For 2025–26, per capita income is estimated at ₹1,20,000.

Urbanisation in Uttar Pradesh is also witnessing rapid growth. The share of urban areas, which was 22.3% in 2011, has increased to 27.6% in 2026.

It is projected to rise further to 29.5% by 2031 and reach 35.8% by 2046.
