Explosion at Former MLA Vijay Singh’s Farrukhabad Residence Triggers FIR Against Six Injured, Including Sons

In a dramatic turn of events following a powerful blast at the residence of imprisoned former Samajwadi Party legislator Vijay Singh, authorities in Farrukhabad have initiated legal action against six individuals who were injured in the incident, including two of his sons.

The case was formally registered on Wednesday, a day after the explosion occurred in the Nala Machratha locality.

Among those booked are Vijay Singh’s sons—Abhishek Singh, also known as Sikki, and Avinash Singh, alias Vikki—both reportedly in their thirties.

The remaining injured individuals have been identified as Ishu Chaurasia (29), Ramveer Yadav (60), Rasu Mishra (35), and Bhaiyalal (40).

Vijay Singh, who is currently serving a life sentence in connection with the 1997 murder of BJP leader Brahm Dutt Dwivedi, remains incarcerated in a Varanasi prison.

According to police officials, the explosion originated in the basement area of the four-storey residential building, leading to severe destruction in that section.

The force of the blast also caused damage to other portions of the structure, including walls, doors, and the roof.

Residents in the vicinity rushed to the site upon hearing the loud detonation and assisted in rescuing those trapped inside.

All injured individuals were promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

At the time of the incident, Vijay Singh’s wife, Damyanti Singh, was present in a separate room within the house and fortunately escaped without any injuries.

Farrukhabad Superintendent of Police Arti Singh stated that the precise reason behind the explosion would only be determined after a comprehensive investigation is completed.

Specialized teams, including the bomb disposal squad and forensic experts, reached the location soon after the incident and collected samples and debris for examination.

Additionally, personnel from the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) also inspected the site. As part of the inquiry, police have obtained CCTV recordings from cameras installed at the premises.

Authorities have lodged a case against the six individuals at Kotwali police station under provisions of the Explosive Substances Act, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Preliminary findings indicate that a gas cylinder found at the site was intact and showed no evidence of leakage or involvement in the blast.

Police officials further noted that although the injured individuals are currently in stable condition, they have not been cooperating with investigators.

The FIR includes charges under BNS sections 288 (careless handling of explosive materials), 125 (acts endangering life or safety of others), and 131 (use of criminal force without grave provocation).

Deputy Inspector General (Kanpur range) Harish Chander, who visited the scene, observed that the intensity of the explosion was significant, as reflected in the extensive structural damage to the building.

He also confirmed the presence of a gas cylinder in the affected area.

Vijay Singh has been behind bars since 2017, following the Allahabad High Court’s decision to uphold the trial court’s verdict sentencing him and deceased gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari to life imprisonment.

Brahm Dutt Dwivedi, a BJP legislator representing Farrukhabad at the time, was assassinated on February 10, 1997.
