Families Gripped by Anxiety as Loved Ones Remain Stranded in UAE Amid Escalating Regional Tensions
A wave of worry and sleepless nights has engulfed several families after the recent Iranian missile strikes that disrupted operations at major airports in the United Arab Emirates, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded — including several prominent figures from the Indian film and music industry.
With air traffic temporarily halted at Dubai International Airport and Zayed International Airport, uncertainty and fear have spread among travellers and their families back home.
As news of the attacks circulated, many relatives in India began anxiously appealing to authorities for assistance in bringing their loved ones back safely.
Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya recently shared his distress publicly, revealing that his son Jay Bhattacharya remains stranded in Dubai.
In an emotional message posted on Instagram, the worried father appealed to the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene and ensure his son’s safe return.
Describing the emotional turmoil the family is experiencing, Abhijeet wrote that the situation has become deeply unsettling for them and urged officials to look into his son’s predicament and help arrange his return to India at the earliest possible moment.
The post quickly drew widespread attention, with many fans offering messages of support and reassurance. At the same time, several residents of the UAE attempted to calm fears, stating that the situation in Dubai remains largely stable despite the disruptions.
One user commented that travellers who remain stranded could even travel by road to neighbouring Oman, a journey of about five hours, and then board flights from Muscat if required, insisting that the country continues to provide hospitality and support to visitors.
Earlier, Punjabi singer and actor Ammy Virk had also spoken about the emotional strain his family is facing.
He revealed that his wife and six-year-old daughter were stuck in Dubai when airport operations were suspended.
Sharing his feelings, Virk said that every update about the unfolding situation intensifies the anxiety of parents who are separated from their children during such uncertain times.
He recalled how his young daughter tried to reassure him over the phone, saying she would hide under her bed if anything happened and telling him not to worry — words that, according to him, no father ever wishes to hear.
The tense atmosphere was also described by actor Esha Gupta, who was briefly stranded at the airport but has since managed to return safely.
Recounting the chaos, she said the confusion began on the afternoon of the 28th when airport operations were abruptly suspended.
According to her account, passengers suddenly found themselves in a state of panic as news of a missile attack began spreading.
With little clarity about what was happening, travellers gathered in groups, calling their families and trying to comfort one another while waiting for further instructions.
She later expressed gratitude for returning home safely and praised the resilience shown by people during the ordeal.
Actor Sonal Chauhan, who was also temporarily stranded, has since returned to India as well.
Amid the growing anxiety, actor and entrepreneur Vivek Oberoi, who spends a significant amount of time in the UAE due to his business ventures there, appealed to people to remain calm and avoid spreading panic.
In a message shared online, he urged the public to rely only on verified information and to show empathy for those affected. He encouraged people to keep everyone in their prayers while allowing authorities to manage the situation.
The disruptions followed retaliatory missile launches reportedly directed toward the UAE after US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
While many of the incoming projectiles were intercepted by air defence systems, reports suggest that debris caused damage near important infrastructure, including parts of Dubai International Airport and Zayed International Airport.
According to international media reports, debris from intercepted missiles has affected airport facilities, and one fatality has been reported near Zayed International Airport.
Authorities have not yet released a comprehensive official report on the full extent of the damage as assessments continue.
Meanwhile, for families with relatives stranded in the region, the hours continue to pass slowly.
Many remain glued to news updates and phone calls, hoping for reassuring messages and urgently seeking help from authorities so their loved ones can return home safely.
