Faridabad Youth Dies by Suicide After Weeks of AI-Generated Blackmail; Family Says He Hid Ordeal Until It Was Too Late
A 19-year-old young man from Baselwa Colony in Old Faridabad, Haryana, a second-year student at a local college, has allegedly died by suicide after being subjected to relentless blackmail over digitally morphed photos and videos of himself and his sisters.
According to the complaint filed by his father at the Old Faridabad Police Station, the young man consumed a poisonous substance (identified as sulphas) on the evening of October 25 after his health rapidly deteriorated. He was hospitalized in Sector 19 and succumbed early the next morning.
The victim’s father, Mr Manoj Bharti, said that around two weeks before the tragedy, his son’s phone was hacked, and through WhatsApp, he began receiving obscene and morphed photos and videos — created using artificial intelligence technology — showing him and his three sisters.
The accused threatened to release these visuals publicly unless a ransom of around ₹20,000 was paid.
Over the ensuing days, the son — deeply distressed and humiliated — reportedly became withdrawn, avoided social interaction, stopped eating properly, and spent most of his time alone in his room, his father says.
In his last communication, the accused allegedly not only threatened to circulate the deepfake content but went so far as to taunt the young man, pushing and goading him towards the idea of ending his life.
Unable to face what he felt was intolerable shame both towards his family and society, the victim is said to have told his father: “I cannot show my face in society … I consumed the poisonous substance.”
It remains unclear whether the victim’s father was aware of the blackmail immediately as it occurred, or whether the son had been hiding what was happening from him.
The reports do not specify that the father received prior knowledge of the morphed images while they were being circulated; instead, they suggest the father only became fully aware after the crisis escalated and the son took the extreme step.
Thus, it appears the victim may have concealed the harassment (out of shame or fear) until it culminated in the tragic outcome.
As for law-enforcement action, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under sections about abetment of suicide at the Old Faridabad Police Station based on the father’s complaint.
The accused — named in the FIR — are presently under questioning at the police station.
However, a formal arrest has not yet been reported at the time of the latest updates.
The investigation is ongoing, particularly to determine how the phone was hacked, how the AI-generated visuals were created and disseminated, and the full extent of harassment and blackmail.
This is a deeply disturbing case — combining cyber-harassment, deepfake technology, extortion, and ultimately a young life lost.
It raises urgent questions about how victims can safely report such exploitation, how families can identify signs of severe distress, and how quickly law enforcement can respond to cyber threats of this nature.
