Firing Incidents Linked to Rivalry and Extortion Leave Several Injured in Prayagraj
Prayagraj: A series of firing incidents allegedly stemming from old rivalries and extortion demands left several people injured in different parts of Prayagraj. Police have registered separate cases in the incidents reported from Muthiganj, Airport police station limits, and Jhunsi, and teams have been deployed to trace the accused.
First Incident – Muthiganj Area
Late on Thursday night, tension erupted during a wedding ceremony in Malviya Nagar under the Muthiganj police station limits. According to police sources, an argument broke out between two groups during the celebration.
It is alleged that a group of youths from Daraganj intercepted some attendees near Basmandi and began assaulting them. During the altercation, the attackers allegedly opened fire, discharging several rounds.
Two people sustained gunshot injuries in the incident — law student Saksham Sharma and his friend Ravi Pathak. Both were rushed to SRN Hospital for treatment after police arrived at the scene.
The victims have also alleged that the attackers demanded an extortion amount of ₹50,000.
Acting on a written complaint, police have registered a named FIR against Vimal Panda, Lucky Panda, and Kamal, all residents of Daraganj, and launched a search operation to apprehend them.
Second Incident – Airport Police Station Area
In another incident under the Airport police station jurisdiction, two members of a family were injured when armed men allegedly opened fire at a house in Asadullapur Bhiti village.
The injured have been identified as Khushmuda (45), wife of Fuzail, and Shoaib (15), his nephew. Both victims were admitted to SRN Hospital with bullet injuries — Khushmuda was shot in the leg, while Shoaib sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
According to the complaint filed by Fuzail, the attack took place around 12:30 pm on Friday when the family was preparing for the Alvida (Jumma-tul-Vida) prayers.
Five men reportedly arrived at the house carrying firearms, issued death threats, and fired multiple rounds.
The complainant alleged that the incident was linked to a dispute that occurred on February 18 between his son Parvez and the accused. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against Imran alias Kale, Rehman, and three other unidentified accomplices.
Third Incident – Jhunsi Area
A separate firing incident was reported late Thursday night in Chamanganj under the Jhunsi police station limits.
According to the complaint, Sanjay Yadav had just returned from a wedding ceremony and was standing outside his house when a Scorpio vehicle stopped nearby. Several men stepped out of the vehicle and allegedly began abusing him.
When Sanjay protested, one of the assailants allegedly fired a shot at him. The bullet narrowly missed him, passing close to his leg. Sanjay immediately ran inside his house to take shelter.
As residents gathered at the spot after hearing the gunshot, the attackers fled the scene. In his written complaint, Sanjay named two individuals and stated that the attackers were associates of a local property dealer with whom he has been involved in a longstanding dispute.
Police have registered a case against the named accused as well as some unidentified persons and have begun an investigation into the matter.
Authorities said efforts are underway to identify and arrest all the accused involved in the three separate incidents.
