In a devastating road accident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, four individuals lost their lives and one sustained critical injuries when a vehicle carrying them crashed into a tree near Gugwa Bagh, within the jurisdiction of Pipri police station in Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh.

The tragic incident took place around 1 a.m. on the intervening night between Saturday and Sunday. The group of five individuals had been returning home after attending a wedding celebration in Dariyapur (Patel Nagar) in Kaushambi.

They had travelled from Puramufti, a locality in Prayagraj district, to take part in the function and were en route back when the unfortunate accident occurred.

According to the initial reports provided by local police officials, the group was travelling in a multi-purpose utility vehicle (MUV). As the vehicle approached the main road, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

In what seemed to be a sudden and violent impact, the car veered off the road and rammed into a roadside tree, resulting in severe damage to the front of the vehicle and fatal injuries to the passengers inside.

Upon receiving the distress call, police teams from Pipri station immediately rushed to the crash site. Emergency services were promptly mobilized, and all five occupants of the car were transported to the nearest hospital in an attempt to save lives.

However, despite efforts by the medical staff, four of the passengers were declared dead on arrival due to the serious nature of their injuries. The fifth individual, who was identified as the driver of the vehicle, was found to be in critical condition and was admitted for intensive medical treatment.

The deceased has been formally identified as:

  • Sunil Kumar Patel, aged 35, is a resident of Manikpur.
  • Ravikumar Patel, aged 38, is also a resident of Manikpur.
  • Chandbadan, aged 35, a resident of Pura Pajwa Bakarabad.
  • Vikas Kumar, aged 38, is a resident of Karan Chhapra in Ballia district.

The injured driver, Amit Kumar, is a resident of Kotwa, which falls under the jurisdiction of Dhoomanganj Police Station in Prayagraj. His condition is reported to be critical, and he is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Further updates on his medical status are awaited.

Police authorities have initiated a formal investigation into the cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that the vehicle may have been speeding, or the driver might have dozed off at the wheel, considering the late hour of travel.

However, definitive conclusions will only be drawn after a thorough examination of the accident site and eyewitness statements, if any.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death and to complete legal formalities.

The tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the families of the victims and the wider communities of Prayagraj and Ballia, from where the deceased hailed.

This unfortunate event serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with night-time travel, especially following long hours of social activity or celebrations.

Authorities have once again urged the public to prioritize road safety, avoid late-night driving when fatigued, and ensure vehicles are in proper condition before embarking on journeys.
