Fresh Drone Intrusion in Poonch Raises Tensions Along LoC Amid Ongoing Hostilities

In yet another breach attempt along the Line of Control, Indian Army personnel opened fire on a suspected Pakistani drone that crossed into Indian airspace in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district early Sunday morning.

This marks the second such episode reported within the span of three days, underscoring continued friction along the frontier.

According to officials, the unmanned aerial vehicle was detected near the Digwar sector around 6:10 am by troops stationed at a forward post.

The quadcopter reportedly entered Indian territory shortly before dawn, hovering briefly before soldiers discharged more than a dozen rounds in an effort to neutralise it.

Despite the firing, the device managed to evade interception and swiftly retreated towards Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Security forces subsequently initiated a combing operation in the vicinity to rule out the possibility of any payload — including arms or contraband — being dropped during the incursion.

A similar drone sighting had been reported in the same region on February 27, when troops also responded with gunfire.

The repeated aerial intrusions come against the backdrop of heightened tensions following the Pahalgam tragedy and India’s subsequent military response under Operation Sindoor.

While New Delhi has maintained that its actions were aimed at safeguarding national security and deterring hostile activity, fresh incidents such as these risk undermining fragile stability along the LoC.

Defence sources note that vigilance has been intensified across sensitive sectors to prevent cross-border misadventures.

The situation remains under close watch as security agencies continue surveillance to thwart any attempt at infiltration or smuggling through unmanned platforms.
