In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across Ghaziabad, a 48-year-old man allegedly shot dead his wife inside their flat on Tuesday morning while their 11-year-old daughter watched in horror.

The tragic event took place in the Nandgram area, highlighting once again how domestic disputes, when left unresolved, can escalate into unimaginable acts of violence.

According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Vikas Sehrawat, a resident of Siddharth Vihar.

He had been living separately from his wife, Ruby (45), for nearly a month due to ongoing family and marital disputes. Ruby, who was employed at a private firm, lived in the flat with their two daughters, aged 11 and 16 years.

On the day of the incident, the elder daughter had already left for school, while the younger one stayed back at home.

Around mid-morning, Vikas reportedly arrived at the flat claiming he needed to collect his passport and Aadhaar card.

However, during his visit, a heated argument broke out between him and Ruby — an argument that quickly spiraled out of control.

Police said preliminary investigations suggest that Vikas, who was allegedly addicted to alcohol, lost his temper during the confrontation.

In a fit of rage, he pulled out an unlicensed pistol and shot Ruby at point-blank range.

The gunshot echoed through the apartment, leaving their 11-year-old daughter frozen in terror as she witnessed the horrifying scene.

Neighbors, startled by the sound of the gunfire, rushed to the spot and immediately informed the police. Ruby was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Speaking on the case, ACP (Nandgram) Upasna Pandey confirmed that the murder weapon used was illegal, and efforts are underway to trace the source of the firearm.

She added, “The accused fled the scene immediately after committing the crime. A team has been formed to apprehend him, and raids are being conducted at several possible hideouts.”

The couple’s younger daughter, who witnessed her mother’s killing, is currently in a state of deep psychological shock.

Police and social welfare officials have arranged counseling and trauma support for the child, while relatives have been contacted to take temporary custody of both daughters.

An FIR under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Nandgram Police Station, and a manhunt has been launched to arrest the absconding accused.

This tragic case has once again brought attention to the growing menace of domestic violence and the easy availability of illegal firearms in urban areas.

Residents of the locality have expressed disbelief over the incident, describing Ruby as a calm and soft-spoken woman who was trying to rebuild her life after separating from her husband.

Authorities have urged citizens to report signs of domestic abuse early to prevent such devastating outcomes.
