In a solemn tribute to those who tragically lost their lives in the recent act of terrorism that shook the picturesque town of Pahalgam in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Allahabad High Court and its Bench at Lucknow observed a two-minute silence on the morning of Friday, April 25, 2025.
This gesture was a symbolic mark of respect and mourning for the innocent victims who fell prey to the senseless violence.
As per a formal notification issued by the Registrar General of the Allahabad High Court, the tribute was scheduled precisely at 10:30 a.m., and to mark the commencement of the two-minute silence, a siren was sounded across the premises of both the Allahabad High Court and its Lucknow Bench.
The siren began at 10:29 a.m. and continued until 10:30 a.m., serving as an auditory cue for everyone present to rise and prepare to participate in the silence.
At the designated hour, a moment of stillness enveloped the court premises. Judges, advocates, officers of the court, registry staff, and other individuals present in and around the court complex stood in respectful silence.
This brief but poignant pause in daily proceedings was meant to reflect collective grief and solidarity with the families of those affected by the devastating attack, as well as a reaffirmation of the judiciary’s condemnation of terrorism in all its forms.
Following the two minutes of silence, which ended at 10:32 a.m., an ‘all clear’ siren was sounded, signaling the conclusion of the observance and the resumption of regular court activity.
This observance not only served as an act of remembrance but also stood as a solemn reaffirmation of the nation’s shared commitment to peace, justice, and the value of human life.
The High Court’s gesture echoed the sentiments of a grieving nation and reinforced the judiciary’s role as a pillar of constitutional dignity, compassion, and resilience in the face of violence.
