High-Speed Horror: SUV Rips Through Tempo in Pilibhit Jehanabad, Leaving Five Dead

2

Jehanabad (Pilibhit) was shaken awake by a devastating road tragedy on Friday morning, as a white SUV, speeding recklessly down the Haridwar Highway, smashed head-on into a tempo packed with passengers.

The impact was catastrophic—a thunderous crash that left the tempo crumpled like paper and the SUV’s front end obliterated.

In a matter of seconds, five lives were lost. Chaos erupted on the otherwise calm highway stretch near Hathipur village, as horrified locals rushed to pull mangled bodies and injured victims from the wreckage.

Police teams and emergency responders stormed the scene within minutes, ferrying the injured to nearby hospitals.

Seven people are fighting for their lives, while families of the deceased are left shattered. Witnesses described the scene as nothing short of a “war zone,” with twisted metal, shattered glass, and cries of pain echoing through the roadside.

Eyewitness Accounts

Villagers who saw the collision said the SUV was “flying down the road,” overtaking vehicles recklessly. “It didn’t even slow down… it just rammed into the tempo,” one eyewitness recounted, trembling as he described the blood-soaked road. The force of the crash threw some passengers off their seats, pinning others inside.

Emergency teams worked frantically with locals to cut through metal, drag victims out, and place them on stretchers. The bodies of the dead were sent for postmortem, while police have launched a probe into the driver’s identity and the SUV’s ownership.

Second Tragedy: Railway Vendor Meets a Gruesome End

While Jehanabad mourned, tragedy struck Varanasi’s railway tracks. Early Friday, a vendor on the Lichchhavi Express met a horrific fate.

The victim, Surendra Prasad (40), reportedly slipped off the moving train while performing his duties.

His lifeless body was discovered sprawled along the tracks between Sarnath and Rajawadi railway stations, near a level crossing. Railway officials suspect an accidental fall but have not ruled out other possibilities. Investigations are ongoing, while his shocked family awaits answers.

Scholar’s Journey Cut Short: Ex-Vice-Chancellor Killed in Crash

In yet another heart-wrenching incident, Dr. Hariram Tripathi, a towering figure in Sanskrit scholarship and former Vice-Chancellor of Sanskrit University, died alongside his wife in Varanasi’s Lohta area.

Their car, en route from Gorakhpur to Varanasi, slammed into a stationary truck near a petrol pump. Locals rushed to help, but by the time they were taken to a hospital, both were declared dead.

Dr. Tripathi’s sudden demise has sent shockwaves through India’s academic circles, with colleagues calling it “a tragic loss for the world of Sanskrit and literature.”

A Grim Reminder

Friday has gone down as one of Uttar Pradesh’s darkest days of road and rail tragedy, with lives lost across Pilibhit, Varanasi, and Mau. These incidents serve as chilling reminders of the rising dangers of overspeeding, reckless driving, and inadequate road safety measures.

As families grieve and authorities investigate, the streets remain littered with twisted metal — silent testimony to the lives that were abruptly and mercilessly cut short.
