Law-enforcement agencies in Uttar Pradesh made a breakthrough on Saturday after a joint team of police and the Narcotics Department raided the residence of an alleged gangster in Mundipur, Manikpur, under the Kunda area of Pratapgarh district.

The operation, which began early in the morning, led to the recovery of large quantities of currency notes stuffed in sacks, cupboards, and boxes, along with suspected narcotic substances.

According to officials, the raid was conducted at the home of Rajesh Mishra, a resident accused of involvement in ganja (cannabis) trafficking. The police team cordoned off the premises before initiating an exhaustive search operation.

During the search, officers discovered bundles of crumpled currency notes in denominations of ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, and ₹100. The notes were packed in sacks and boxes, making manual counting extremely difficult.

As the volume of notes continued to grow, authorities had to requisition a currency-counting machine from Kalakankar.

The counting process, which went on from morning till late at night, was slow due to the condition of the notes.

Officers were seen sorting and straightening the badly folded currency bundles before feeding them into the counting machine.

Officials indicated that the exact amount will be confirmed only after the completion of the counting process.

In addition to the cash and narcotic substances, investigators also seized several mobile phones and important documents from the house.

These are now being examined to track financial transactions, identify associates, and uncover possible links to larger drug networks operating in the region.

Officials believe that the evidence may help expose wider illicit trade routes and financial trails associated with drug trafficking.

Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar stated that the counting of the money is still underway, and once completed, action will be taken in connection with the narcotics recovered.

Additional SP Vrajnandan Rai noted that the small denominations and poor condition of the notes have significantly slowed down the process.

The operation is seen as a major strike against local narcotics networks and organized crime.

Police sources suggest that similar raids may follow as part of an intensified crackdown on illegal drug trade and black-money circulation in the region.
