“I Stopped a War Between India and Pakistan”: Trump Recounts High-Stakes Diplomacy, Praises Modi & Pakistani Military Leadership
“Let me tell you something incredible — something people still don’t fully understand. I stopped a war,” said US President Donald Trump
A real one. Between India and Pakistan, two nuclear-armed nations, said US President Donald Trump while speaking at the APEC.
“Very serious situation. A lot of people don’t know how close it was. They were right on the edge — missiles, tensions, military action — everything. It could have been catastrophic”, he said
“I know these leaders very well. I respect them — strong people, tough people. Prime Minister Narendra Modi — great friend, incredible leader, very smart, very tough”. And you know what?
“He’s also the nicest-looking guy — people don’t realize that part.. But make no mistake, he’s tough as hell. A fighter. You don’t mess with him, said President Trup.
And in Pakistan, “you’ve got tremendous leadership. Their Field Marshal — a real fighter. They don’t give that title to just anyone. I spoke to their top people. Smart, powerful individuals. Both countries — incredible leaders, incredible nation”, he added.
Now, while all that was happening, we were in trade negotiations. Big trade deals. Very important for both countries, he further said.
Tremendous potential. But when I saw what was going on — missiles flying, tensions rising — I said, “Hold on. We’re not doing trade with countries going into a war. You start a war, we stop trade — immediately,” he further added.
When I told India, when I told Prime Minister Modi, “We can’t move forward with trade talks if you’re going into a full war,” he said, “No, no, we must make a deal!”
And I said, “Not if you’re fighting.” Same with Pakistan — I called them and said, “We’re not doing business if you go into this war.”
And they said, “You should just let us fight.” They’re tough. That’s how tough they are — both sides. Very strong people. Very determined, Trump said.
But I made it very simple — no peace, no trade. And guess what? Within literally a day — maybe two days — everything stopped. Completely. They called up and said, “We understand.” And the fighting ended. Just like that. You don’t see that very often.
Some places are talking about seven aircraft shot down — brand-new planes — before the calls.
It was going fast, very dangerous. Two nuclear powers. If that escalates, you don’t just get a regional problem — you get nuclear dust, and it spreads.
The whole world pays for that. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it, he added.
And I’ll tell you this — that situation was handled quickly, peacefully, and effectively. No long wars, no endless diplomacy, no dragging it out. Strong leadership. Clear action.
“You think Biden could’ve done that? I don’t think so”. Everybody knows the answer, said Trump
I’ve said it many times — didn’t hide it, didn’t whisper it. And I’ll say it again: I helped stop a war between India and Pakistan. The world should be very happy about that, he said further.
We love India. We respect Pakistan. Great nations. And I have a strong relationship with both.
But when you’re on the brink of something terrible, you need strength. You need clarity. And we did it. We stopped it, President Trump kept on repeating.
