ICC Warns Pakistan of Isolation After PCB Chief Backs Bangladesh in T20 World Cup Dispute

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly conveyed strong displeasure over recent remarks made by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who openly supported Bangladesh in the ongoing controversy surrounding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

According to senior cricketing sources, the ICC has made it clear that Pakistan could face severe consequences if it chooses to withdraw from the tournament in protest or follows a similar stance as Bangladesh.

The global body is said to be prepared with a set of strict sanctions aimed at isolating Pakistan from international cricket.

Potential punitive measures under discussion include a complete halt to Pakistan’s bilateral series with other international teams, refusal to grant No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to foreign players wishing to participate in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and barring Pakistan from future Asia Cup tournaments.

The tension escalated after Mohsin Naqvi accused the ICC of applying “double standards” in its handling of member nations.

He argued that Bangladesh had been treated unfairly after concerns over venue arrangements were dismissed, while similar accommodations had previously been extended to other boards.

Naqvi emphasized that Bangladesh, like Pakistan, is a full ICC member and a significant stakeholder in global cricket.

He urged the governing body to adopt a hybrid hosting model for Bangladesh as well — similar to the arrangement that allows Pakistan to play its World Cup matches in Colombo.

“One country should not be allowed to dictate terms while another is denied flexibility,” Naqvi said, adding that Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup would ultimately be decided at the highest level of government.

He noted that a final call would be taken after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif returns from his overseas visit.

Behind the scenes, ICC officials are reportedly concerned that any withdrawal by Pakistan could set a dangerous precedent and disrupt the tournament’s structure, commercial commitments, and broadcasting arrangements.

Despite the strong rhetoric, developments suggest the PCB may be reconsidering an outright boycott, especially given the serious sporting and financial fallout such sanctions could bring.

Preparations within Pakistan’s cricket setup for the World Cup continue, indicating growing pressure to comply with ICC directives.

As the cricketing world watches closely, many within the sport are urging diplomacy and dialogue to prevent further escalation, warning that prolonged disputes could harm international cricket’s unity and credibility.
