PRAYAGRAJ — In a decisive action against illegal land encroachment, the Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) on Friday demolished unauthorized plots spread over approximately 50 bighas of land in the notorious Alina City Phase 1 and 2, a project once associated with mafia don Atiq Ahmad.
The illegal plotting was reportedly carried out by individuals close to Atiq, who attempted to capitalize on the vast land meant for urban development.
Demolition Operation
The PDA deployed a large police contingent along with a team of officials, including Zonal Officer-2, Deputy Engineer Rupesh Patel, Lekhpal Ritukesh, and Anshuman Singh, to oversee the operation.
Heavy machinery, including backhoe loaders (JCBs), was used to demolish the illegally constructed plots. The move created panic among those attempting the encroachment.
Following the demolition, PDA officials submitted a formal complaint to the local police station to initiate criminal proceedings against those involved in the unauthorized plotting.
Background of Alina City Project
The Alina City project, spanning several acres in Damupur village, was conceptualized by Atiq Ahmad years ago as a two-phase residential township, with the nearby Ahmed City also planned as a single-phase development.
The PDA had previously installed electric poles and constructed paved roads in anticipation of legitimate development.
In 2018, the case first came under scrutiny when complaints regarding illegal encroachments were lodged. The Special Task Force (STF) conducted an investigation and uncovered startling findings about unauthorized occupation of land. This led to previous rounds of bulldozer demolitions.
Recent Encroachments and Enforcement
In recent weeks, it was reported that associates of Atiq Ahmad had resumed unauthorized plotting activities in Phases 1 and 2 of Alina City. Acting on complaints, the PDA conducted a fresh survey and formulated a detailed demolition plan.
Friday’s operation was executed with meticulous coordination between PDA officials, law enforcement, and technical staff. The bulldozers razed illegal plots, sending a strong warning to all land grabbers that unauthorized construction and encroachment would not be tolerated.
The PDA emphasized that strict legal action will follow, and further monitoring of the area will ensure compliance with development norms. Authorities noted that such interventions are crucial to protect public land and maintain planned urban development in Prayagraj.
Broader Implications
The operation underscores a broader issue of illegal land grabbing in urban areas, often involving powerful local figures and their networks. By taking swift action, the PDA aims to prevent lawlessness, preserve urban planning, and safeguard citizens’ interests.
