India has created history by launching the Agni-Prime missile with a strike range of 2,000 kilometers from a train. The Ministry of Defence announced on Thursday that after this successful test using a rail-based mobile launch system, India has become the fourth country in the world—after China, North Korea, and Russia—to acquire this capability.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Strategic Forces Command (SFC), conducted this test on Thursday at the Chandipur range in Odisha.
After the successful trial, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying that this was the first-ever test of its kind carried out using a specially designed rail-based mobile launcher. With the support of the railway network, this missile can now be launched easily from any part of the country.
Evasion from enemy surveillance made easier:
The missile can be launched swiftly and even in conditions of low visibility, enabling it to strike enemy targets effectively. Because of this, it also becomes much easier to evade enemy surveillance systems.
Equipped with advanced safety mechanisms:
The Agni-Prime missile is armed with cutting-edge communication systems and robust safety mechanisms. Its superior design has been a major factor contributing to its success.
Special Features of the Missile:
● With the help of an advanced navigation system, it can strike enemy targets with pinpoint accuracy.
● The missile can be launched quickly and even under conditions of low visibility.
● For protection against rain, dust, and heat, the missile is stored in sealed box-like containers called canisters.
● It is lighter than all the previous missiles of the Agni series.
