India Positions Itself as a Global Leader in AI Diplomacy at India AI Impact Summit 2026

New Delhi: Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has taken decisive steps toward assuming a leadership role in the world through what is being termed “AI diplomacy.”

By spearheading efforts to guide the development and responsible use of artificial intelligence, India aims not only to lead technological advancement but also to end monopolistic control over AI technologies, paving the way for a new era of innovation and inclusive growth.

The AI Summit, which commenced on Monday, carries the theme “Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya” — meaning “for the welfare of all and the happiness of all.”

Through this guiding principle, India intends to amplify the voice of the Global South while strongly advocating the democratization of technology.

The broader message of the conference is captured in its central motto: People, Planet, and Progress.

This theme will also form the core of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s discussions with leaders from various countries attending the summit.

A Step Ahead in Vision

The conference being held in India is focused on a forward-looking approach that goes beyond similar gatherings previously hosted by the United Kingdom, South Korea, and France.

At last year’s Paris AI Action Summit, the Prime Minister introduced the slogan “AI for All.” The ongoing Delhi summit represents the next stage in that vision.

An official noted that just as the Delhi G-20 Summit became known for achieving consensus on the New Delhi Declaration amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the current initiative in AI diplomacy may produce an outcome document centered on inclusive development.

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Expo 2026 at Bharat Mandapam.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing India as a global leader in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

The Expo, being held from February 16 to 20 alongside the India AI Impact Summit, has brought together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, startups, and global technology experts from around the world.

The participants are engaging in discussions on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence across diverse sectors.
