Indian Vessels Continue Transit Through Hormuz Amid Escalating US–Israel–Iran Conflict; One Indian Killed in Gulf Tanker Attack

Even as hostilities intensify between the United States, Israel and Iran, vessels linked to India are reportedly continuing to move through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz without interruption.

A report quoting Indian officials indicated that merchant ships associated with Indian interests are presently being permitted to navigate the narrow maritime corridor.

However, the situation remains uncertain. An Iranian source located outside the country reportedly dismissed claims that any formal understanding had been reached to ensure unhindered passage for Indian vessels.

At the same time, tensions surged further in West Asia after the Israeli military announced that multiple projectiles had been launched from Iran toward Israeli territory.

Israeli defence authorities said missile-defence systems were activated to intercept the incoming strikes, while emergency alerts were sent to residents in vulnerable regions through mobile warning systems.

According to the report, vessels that do not have links to either American or Israeli commercial or strategic interests are currently being allowed to move through the Hormuz route.

This has enabled Indian shipping to continue using the critical passage despite Iran’s earlier warnings that it could target maritime traffic moving through the strait.

In a separate development late Wednesday night, Iran reportedly struck a United States-linked oil tanker identified as Safesea Vishnu in the waters of the Persian Gulf.

The assault allegedly involved an explosive-laden suicide boat that rammed into the vessel.

The incident resulted in the death of one Indian national who was part of the crew, although authorities have not yet disclosed the victim’s identity.

Reports said the tanker was sailing under the Marshall Islands registry at the time of the attack. The remaining 27 crew members aboard the vessel were rescued safely after the strike.

The developments highlight the growing risks to international shipping in one of the world’s most crucial energy transit routes as the regional confrontation continues to escalate.
