Infant Abduction at Rajsamand Hospital: Woman in Nurse Disguise Kidnaps 3-Day-Old Boy Amid Shocking Security Breach

A shocking case of child abduction has rocked the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, after a three-day-old baby boy was kidnapped in broad daylight from the maternity ward of a government hospital.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, August 5, at the Shri Govardhan Government District Hospital in Nathdwara, sparking a frantic police investigation and raising urgent questions about hospital security protocols.

Crime in Disguise: Woman Poses as Nurse to Abduct Newborn

According to authorities, the abductor was a woman disguised as a hospital nurse, complete with a white coat and face mask, allowing her to blend in seamlessly with the medical staff on duty. The suspect approached Bindiya Meena, a new mother from Sukhadiya Nagar, just three days after she had delivered her baby boy on August 2.

At around 2:30 PM, the woman told Bindiya and her family that the newborn required a routine check-up in the pediatric ward located on the upper floor. To lend credibility to her claim, the woman reportedly spoke with the confidence of a medical professional and appeared calm and composed, according to eyewitnesses.

Manipulation and Deception: How the Kidnap Unfolded

Bindiya’s sister-in-law, Chanda, agreed to accompany the woman with the child in hand. As they walked toward the staircase, the impersonator suddenly asked Chanda to fetch the baby’s Aadhaar card, saying it was mandatory for the check-up. Trusting her, Chanda handed the baby back to the woman and went to retrieve the document.

While on her way, Chanda encountered her mother, Sugna, who already had the Aadhaar card. The two women then hurried to the pediatric ward — but by the time they arrived, the woman and the baby were gone.

It was only then that the horrifying realization dawned upon the family — their baby had been abducted.

CCTV Clues: Two Women, One Baby

Upon receiving the alert, hospital staff quickly notified the Nathdwara police, who rushed to the scene and began their investigation. CCTV footage from the hospital was reviewed extensively, revealing two women as possible suspects.

In one clip, a woman wearing a saree is seen holding the newborn. In another, a woman dressed in a nurse’s coat is seen exiting the hospital with the baby swaddled in her arms.

Investigators now suspect the abduction was a well-planned operation, possibly involving multiple conspirators with prior knowledge of hospital routines.

Sources close to the investigation say the suspects may have scouted the hospital beforehand, identifying vulnerable targets and exploiting the absence of patient verification checks before moving babies for examination.

Police Launch Statewide Manhunt

The Rajsamand district police, in coordination with neighboring district units and child protection officers, have launched a statewide manhunt for the abductors. Police checkpoints have been established across major roads, railway stations, and bus terminals. Child trafficking networks in the region are also being scrutinized.

In a statement, Nathdwara Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) confirmed that all angles are being investigated, including:

  • The possibility of a childless couple hiring abductors
  • Links to human trafficking rings
  • Exploitation for illegal adoption or organ trade

Police are urging citizens to come forward with any tip-offs. A dedicated helpline has been activated for anonymous information sharing.

Public Outcry and Hospital Accountability

The incident has triggered outrage among locals and hospital patients, with many questioning how a woman could walk into a high-security maternity ward and leave with a baby without facing any checks.

Hospital officials admitted that security lapses and the absence of real-time ID verification may have contributed to the abduction.

Rajasthan’s Health Department has ordered an internal inquiry, and a report has been demanded within 48 hours. Meanwhile, hospital authorities are reviewing access control measures, staff uniform policies, and visitor identification processes to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Family in Anguish: A Mother’s Plea

The infant’s mother, Bindiya Meena, remains in shock. Surrounded by distraught family members, she issued an emotional plea to the abductors through the media: Please return my child. I don’t want to know who you are or why you did this. Just bring him back safely. He is just three days old.”

 A Race Against Time

With every passing hour, the urgency to locate the missing child grows. Police have appealed to the public to stay alert for anyone seen traveling with a newborn under suspicious circumstances, particularly women matching the suspects’ descriptions.

The case has also drawn attention to the wider issue of infant abductions in India, often underreported or buried under bureaucratic hurdles.

As of now, the search continues.
