Iran Denies Any Direct Talks with US as Conflicting Claims Deepen Uncertainty Over Ongoing War

Amid continuing tensions in West Asia, fresh uncertainty has emerged after contradictory claims regarding possible negotiations between the United States and Iran surfaced.

While US President Donald Trump has reportedly indicated that discussions were underway with Iranian leaders to find a solution to the ongoing conflict, Iran has strongly denied the existence of any such direct engagement.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf dismissed reports of negotiations, stating that no talks have taken place between Tehran and Washington.

In a post on social media platform X, Ghalibaf described the reports as “fake news,” alleging that such claims are being circulated deliberately to influence global financial and oil markets and to divert attention from the difficult situation faced by the United States and Israel.

Clarifying Iran’s position, the speaker emphasised that the country’s stance remains unchanged and reiterated Tehran’s demand that the “aggressor must be punished.”

He warned that any attack on Iran’s energy infrastructure or other vital national resources would lead to severe repercussions.

According to him, Iran is prepared to respond with greater force if its strategic interests are targeted, which could result in more serious consequences for the United States.

Ghalibaf, however, acknowledged that some messages have been conveyed through friendly nations acting as intermediaries, but maintained that no direct negotiations have taken place with the US regarding the ongoing conflict.

He further stressed that Iran’s position on key issues, including the Strait of Hormuz and the broader question of ending the war, remains firm and unchanged.

Describing the reports of negotiations as misleading, the Iranian leader claimed that such information is being spread intentionally by the US in an attempt to influence global oil prices and financial markets.

The conflicting statements from both sides have added to the uncertainty surrounding the conflict, which has already had far-reaching consequences for global stability, energy supply chains, and economic conditions worldwide.

With no clear indication of diplomatic progress, it remains uncertain when the crisis will de-escalate or what steps may be taken to bring about a resolution.
