Iran Executes Man Over Alleged Espionage Links to Israel Amid Rising Capital Punishment Cases

As per reports, Iran has executed a man accused of acting as an informant for Israel, underscoring the country’s continued reliance on the death penalty in matters related to national security.

According to an Associated Press report, which cited Iran’s judiciary-linked Mizan news agency, the individual has been identified as Kourosh Keyvani.

He was put to death on Wednesday after Iran’s Supreme Court upheld his conviction. Authorities alleged that Keyvani had supplied “photographs and intelligence regarding sensitive sites” to Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad.

The report states that Keyvani was taken into custody in Savojbolagh on the fourth day of the 12-day conflict in June.

Officials claimed that the due legal procedures were followed before the execution was implemented. However, no independently verified proof supporting the accusations has been disclosed publicly.

Keyvani was reportedly apprehended by the intelligence wing of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Officials alleged that he was found with cash, vehicles, and what were described as sophisticated communication and surveillance devices.

This execution is part of a broader pattern, as Iran has in recent months carried out multiple executions involving individuals accused of espionage activities linked to Israel, particularly following the June conflict.

Iran has consistently recorded one of the highest execution rates worldwide and often enforces capital punishment in cases tied to national security, including allegations of spying.

In the aftermath of the conflict, human rights organisations and global media outlets have noted a significant rise in arrests and executions on such charges. Activists have also cautioned since the nationwide protests in January that authorities may intensify the use of the death penalty.

Reports from international media, citing figures compiled by the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), suggest that executions in Iran have sharply increased since the June conflict, including several cases involving alleged connections to Israel.
