Iran Mocks Trump’s Threat Over Strait of Hormuz, Says “Keys Are Lost” in Sarcastic Diplomatic Jibe

Tehran: Iran has responded with biting sarcasm to repeated warnings by former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the reopening of the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route.

This Iranian response comes at a time when the US President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iran completely in just one night, reducing it to smithereens.

In a series of satirical social media posts, Iranian diplomatic missions ridiculed Washington’s ultimatum, suggesting that the “keys” to the waterway had been misplaced.

The Iranian Embassy in Zimbabwe triggered attention online after posting a tongue-in-cheek message on the social media platform X, stating that the “keys have been lost,” in an apparent mockery of the pressure being exerted by Washington.

Joining the sarcastic chorus, Iran’s Embassy in South Africa posted another quip, remarking that the “key is under the flower pot — open only for friends,” a statement widely interpreted as a pointed diplomatic dig at the United States and its allies.

The humorous yet pointed remarks were seen as Iran’s attempt to downplay the seriousness of the ultimatum and project defiance amid escalating rhetoric surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically sensitive maritime choke points through which a substantial portion of global oil supplies pass.

The sarcastic posts were issued after Trump reportedly warned Tehran to ensure the reopening of the strait within a specified timeframe or face severe military consequences.

According to the warning, failure to comply could result in targeted strikes on Iran’s critical infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, signaling a sharp escalation in tensions linked to maritime access in the Gulf region.

Iranian diplomatic responses on social media were widely viewed as a calculated attempt to counter the perceived pressure campaign with humor, while simultaneously reinforcing Tehran’s position that it will not yield to threats concerning its strategic interests.

The exchange underscores the growing war of words surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow yet highly vital passage connecting the Persian Gulf to international waters, often at the center of geopolitical tensions due to its critical importance to global energy markets. (Agencies)
