Iran Warns the US of Retaliatory Strikes; Clouds of Conflict Loom Again Over Central and West Asia
Paris, Agency: Iran has issued a sharp warning to both the United States and Israel, escalating fears of a wider conflict in Central and West Asia.
On Sunday, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that if the United States were to launch a military attack amid the ongoing protests inside Iran, Tehran would retaliate by striking American military bases and shipping targets in the region.
In a statement delivered on the floor of parliament and broadcast on Iranian state television, Ghalibaf declared that in the event of a US military strike, American forces and maritime hubs would be firmly in Iran’s sights.
His remarks also carried a clear message for Israel, a country the Islamic Republic does not recognise.
He stated unequivocally that any military action by the United States would not be met with a limited response.
According to him, Iran’s reaction would go far beyond a symbolic counterattack, signalling the possibility of a broader and more sustained confrontation.
‘Trump Was Given Military Options’
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump said that Washington was prepared to help the Iranian people secure freedom from their current leadership. Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iran was closer to freedom than ever before and asserted that the United States was ready to extend all possible support.
At the same time, reports by The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed American officials, said that Trump had been presented with military options for a potential strike on Iran late Saturday night. However, the reports added that no final decision had been made yet.
Israel on High Alert
Amid growing speculation about a possible US attack on Iran, Israel has reportedly gone on high alert.
According to media reports, the heightened state of readiness follows concerns that Washington may soon carry out military action against Tehran.
The reports quoted three individuals who participated in Israeli security meetings towards the end of the week, claiming that Israel is preparing for potential US-led action against Iran.
According to these accounts, Israel is assessing various scenarios linked to American intervention.
It was further reported that during a telephone conversation on Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the possibility of American involvement in Iran and the evolving regional security situation.
With warnings, counter-warnings, and military preparations unfolding across capitals, the situation has once again raised the spectre of a major escalation in an already volatile region.
