IRCTC Makes Aadhaar Verification Compulsory for Online Ticket Booking

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made Aadhaar verification mandatory for booking train tickets online.

The decision is aimed at stopping misuse of the system and ensuring that genuine passengers get a fair chance to book tickets, especially under the Tatkal and Advance Reservation Period (ARP) schemes.

What has changed?

IRCTC announced that:

  • Only Aadhaar-verified users can book tickets on the day the Advance Reservation Period opens.
  • Only Aadhaar-verified users can book Tatkal tickets.

This step has been taken to prevent fraud and block fake or automated accounts that try to grab tickets unfairly.

According to IRCTC, Aadhaar verification has helped stop the creation of unauthorised user accounts and reduce misuse of the system.

The aim is to make ticket booking more transparent and improve availability for real passengers.

Website and App Upgrades

Along with the Aadhaar rule, IRCTC has also improved its website (www.irctc.co.in) and the IRCTC Rail Connect mobile app to make booking simpler and faster.

Here are the key updates:

  • A cleaner and more modern design with faster loading speed.
  • Menu options rearranged for easier navigation.
  • Booking form fields reorganised for smooth input.
  • Removal of CAPTCHA at login for quicker access.
  • Train listings are now sorted by departure time instead of duration.
  • New “Show/Hide Filter” option for better search control.

IRCTC also said it has strengthened its technical systems to stop automated bookings and ensure that Tatkal and ARP tickets are fairly distributed.

The overall goal is simple: make online train ticket booking smoother, faster, and fairer for passengers.
