ISIS Influence Reaches Minors: Chhattisgarh ATS Foils Online Radicalisation Attempt Targeting Teenagers

8

In a worrying reminder of how extremist networks are increasingly targeting vulnerable minds, the Chhattisgarh Police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has detained two minors for their alleged involvement with an ISIS-linked online module.

The case highlights how radical groups are now attempting to rope in teenagers, whose impressionable minds can be easily swayed into dangerous paths.

The operation began when the state’s cyber police detected suspicious posts made by the youths during routine monitoring.

Officials tracked their online activities for several days, eventually concluding that the content and interactions were anti-India and linked to extremist propaganda.

Both minors were apprehended and booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma described the breakthrough as “a major success” for the ATS.
According to him, the teenagers—residents of Raipur—were communicating online with an ISIS group and acting on instructions from a Pakistan-based module tied to the organisation.

Using fake Instagram accounts, the minors were allegedly trying to influence other young users, expand their online network, and spread radical messaging. Their reach on Instagram had grown significantly, raising alarm among investigators.

Officials say the case underscores an unsettling trend: extremist organisations increasingly view minors as easy targets, exploiting their curiosity and emotional vulnerability.

Once influenced, young minds can be manipulated into adopting extreme ideologies and even engaging in unlawful activities without fully understanding the consequences.
