Jhusi Horror: Man Beats Wife to Death with Electric Iron After Domestic Dispute, Arrested

Prayagraj: A shocking incident of domestic violence has come to light from the Chamanganj locality in the Jhusi area, where a man allegedly killed his wife by repeatedly striking her on the head with an electric iron.

The brutal crime created panic in the neighbourhood and left residents deeply disturbed.

According to police officials, the accused has been identified as Hemant Sharma, originally a resident of Jaunpur district.

Hemant lived in Jhusi along with his mother, Munni Devi, his sister Gauri, his wife Sweta, and their three-year-old daughter, Ester.

He operates a small bag-selling shop near the Jhusi police booth.

Police sources revealed that Hemant had married Sweeta, a resident of Gurdaspur district in Punjab, in the year 2021.

However, their marital relationship had reportedly been strained for a long time. Neighbours stated that the couple frequently engaged in arguments, and their disputes were well known in the locality.

On Wednesday, the couple once again became involved in a heated argument. The verbal altercation reportedly escalated in the evening, during which Hemant allegedly lost his temper.

In a fit of rage, he picked up an electric iron from the house and struck his wife multiple times on the head. Due to the severe injuries sustained, Sweeta collapsed and is believed to have died on the spot.

After committing the crime, the accused reportedly left the house with his mother and daughter and went to his shop as if nothing had happened.

Later, he returned home and called the police control room, informing them about the incident and confessing to his act.

Upon receiving the information, police personnel rushed to the spot along with a forensic team and took custody of the accused.

The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal proceedings were initiated.

The Station House Officer of Jhusi police station confirmed that the accused is currently being interrogated to ascertain the exact sequence of events and motive behind the crime.

Police have also informed the deceased woman’s father, Bashir Masih, who resides in Gurdaspur, Punjab.

The gruesome nature of the crime has shocked local residents and once again highlighted the serious issue of domestic violence, which continues to claim lives and destroy families.

Authorities have assured that strict legal action will be taken in the matter after completion of the investigation. Sources said that domestic violence cases in the district have been on the rise for a long time. Incidents of domestic violence have now become common, ending up with lodging of a case. But incidents of murder following marital disputes are not frequently heard of.
