Kanpur Police Hunt for Dentist Accused of Illegal Hair Transplants Linked to Two Deaths
Authorities in Kanpur have launched a manhunt for a dentist, Dr. Anushka Tiwari, who is accused of illegally performing hair transplant procedures that allegedly resulted in the deaths of two patients. Police say she lacked the proper medical qualifications required for such surgeries.
Dr. Tiwari, aged 35, has gone missing since a case was registered against her two days ago.
Preliminary investigations reveal that although she holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a college in Faridabad, Haryana, she had no formal training or certification in hair transplant procedures — a specialized field usually requiring an MBBS degree along with further specialization in dermatology or plastic surgery.
The issue came to light when Jaya Dubey, the widow of one of the deceased patients, Vineet Dubey, filed a complaint and approached senior police officials, seeking justice.
“She was posing as a qualified hair transplant surgeon,” said Dinesh Tripathi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kanpur West. “She was only a dentist. What she was doing was illegal, and we are actively trying to track her down.”
Vineet Dubey, an engineer employed at Panki Power House in Kanpur, had undergone a hair transplant at Dr. Tiwari’s clinic, Empire Clinic. According to his wife, he began suffering from severe headaches shortly after the procedure. Despite being advised to consult another doctor, Vineet’s condition deteriorated, and he eventually died.
Another fatality has been linked to the same clinic. Mayank Katiyar, a public works department engineer from Farrukhabad, also reportedly died days after undergoing a similar procedure under Dr. Tiwari’s care.
Dr. Tiwari’s clinic, located in Kanpur, operated under the name Empire Clinic, with a promotional tagline that read: “Get back your confidence: Hair, Dental, Aesthetics.” The clinic advertised her as both a dentist and a hair transplant surgeon — misleading potential patients about her credentials.
Police say that while most certified hair transplant professionals in Kanpur and Lucknow charge between ₹1 lakh and ₹3 lakh, Tiwari offered full procedures for just ₹40,000.
Unlike standard hair restoration practices, which are typically carried out in multiple sessions over several months, Tiwari would reportedly complete the procedure in a single five-hour sitting, raising further questions about her methods.
“When our teams arrived at her residence, she had already locked the house and fled,” said DCP Tripathi. “We’ve formed multiple teams and are doing everything possible to trace and arrest her.”
Meanwhile, authorities continue to question people linked to the clinic, and further legal action is expected as the investigation unfolds.
