In response to a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases, the Karnataka government has issued a public advisory urging citizens to adopt responsible health practices, including wearing masks in crowded areas, maintaining physical distancing, and following good hygiene protocols.

The advisory, released on Saturday by the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Services, emphasizes continued vigilance and cooperation to prevent the spread of infection and manage potential new variants or outbreaks.

“There is no need to panic, but public support is essential to ensure early detection and containment of any emerging threats,” the advisory stated.

Key Recommendations for the Public:

  • Stay Alert, Not Anxious: Rely only on official sources for COVID-related updates. Avoid spreading unverified or misleading information.
  • Report Relevant Information: Notify health authorities about recent international travelers for necessary follow-up and monitoring.
  • Follow Covid-Appropriate Behaviour:
    • Wear masks in enclosed or crowded spaces
    • Maintain physical distance
    • Practice frequent handwashing and respiratory hygiene
  • Seek Medical Help Promptly: Individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, chest pain, or difficulty breathing are urged to consult healthcare professionals without delay.
  • Support Testing and Surveillance:
    • Cooperate with random testing
    • Allow sample collection as part of surveillance drives
    • Use the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) to report any unusual surge in flu-like symptoms

Special Focus on Schools and Public Spaces:

The advisory calls for increased surveillance in schools, including:

  • Keeping sick children at home
  • Monitoring students for signs of illness
  • Promoting hygiene practices
  • Ensuring proper ventilation in classrooms

It also encourages environmental hygiene, including proper waste disposal and the cleanliness of public areas.

Government’s Preparedness and Helpline Services:

The Health Department reiterated that the government remains on high alert and continues to monitor the situation closely.

“Lead your lives as usual, but stay mindful and follow advisories,” the statement urged.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the toll-free health helpline 1800 425 8330 for medical advice or dial 108 for emergency ambulance services.

As of Friday evening, Karnataka has reported 234 active COVID-19 cases. Since January 1, three individuals with existing comorbidities have succumbed to the infection.

The advisory concludes with a reminder that community cooperation is key to swiftly identifying and containing any resurgence of the virus, ensuring the safety of all.
