Kite Traders Launch Awareness Campaign Against Chinese Manjha, Submit Memorandum to District Magistrate in Prayagraj

Kite traders in Prayagraj organized a public awareness campaign against the use and sale of hazardous Chinese manjha (glass-coated kite string), highlighting its serious risks to human life and safety.

The initiative was carried out under the leadership of Vijay Gupta, Chief Patron of the Kite Traders Unity Committee, Prayagraj.

As part of the campaign, traders mounted banners and loudspeakers on e-rickshaws and conducted an awareness drive across Dariyabad, Mirapur, and Nurullah Road.

During the campaign, they appealed to citizens to avoid using Chinese manjha and to keep children away from it, describing it as extremely dangerous and responsible for numerous injuries and fatalities.

The traders also welcomed the Uttar Pradesh government’s decision under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to impose a ban on Chinese manjha and to initiate strict legal action, including criminal charges, against those involved in its sale and use.

They reiterated their support for the administration in enforcing the ban.

Trader leader Pramil Kesarwani raised concerns about the continued online sale of Chinese manja and urged the state government to take strict action to curb digital distribution channels as well.

District President Iftikhar Ali, General Secretary Manish Malviya, and Treasurer Imran Ali jointly announced that the awareness campaign would continue for ten days. Several traders and community members actively participated in the drive.

Memorandum Submitted to District Magistrate

A delegation of the Kite Traders Unity Committee, led by Vijay Gupta, later met District Magistrate Manish Verma and submitted a memorandum demanding strict enforcement of the ban.

The District Magistrate directed Additional District Magistrate (City) Satyam Mishra to coordinate with senior police officials to take firm action against individuals illegally selling Chinese manjha. He also assured that legitimate traders would not face unnecessary harassment.

Vijay Gupta emphasized that despite the government ban, the continued use of Chinese manjha has led to multiple accidents, deaths, and injuries, making it a serious public safety concern that requires urgent administrative attention.

Trader leader Pramil Kesarwani further urged authorities to identify and take strict legal action against those secretly manufacturing, distributing, or selling Chinese manja.

Office bearers of the committee stated that while they would fully cooperate with the police and administration, honest kite sellers who do not deal in Chinese manja should not be harassed or subjected to undue pressure.

The memorandum was signed by numerous traders and representatives of the committee, reflecting widespread support for the campaign.
