Prayagraj: A declared power cut at the Telierganj sub-center for replacing panels left nearly 50,000 residents struggling without water for the entire day. Electricity, scheduled to return at 5 PM, was restored only by 8 PM, fueling frustration among locals.

During this period, around 40 tubewells were shut, worsening the water crisis. Without electricity, air conditioners and refrigerators also remained off, adding to people’s troubles.

The power department had announced a cut from 10 AM to 5 PM for replacing five panels. Initially, residents managed with inverters, but by the afternoon, the backup failed.

By 4 PM, water supplies dried up. People waited patiently, assuming power would return on time, but after 5 PM, frustration spread as the outage continued.

The affected areas included Telierganj, Shankargat, Jondhwal, Mehdouri Colony, TB Colony, Shilakhana, Mehdouri Village, New Mehdouri, Telierganj PDA Colony, Badri Awas Yojana, Telierganj Industrial Belt, Rasulabad PDA Colony, Ganga Darshan, and Printing Technology. In total, nearly 15,000 families — about 50,000 residents — were affected.

As evening approached, people started visiting substations seeking information. Despite repeated calls, officials failed to provide clarity. Finally, at around 8 PM, when electricity returned, residents breathed a sigh of relief and rushed to store water.

Locals said the department could have arranged intermittent supply to allow inverters to recharge and water tanks to fill. They also suggested that officials could have sourced power from alternative feeders to reduce suffering.

Instead, many families were forced to buy bottled water, while unclean washrooms left neighborhoods surrounded by foul smells.
