LJP Chief Chirag Paswan Regrets Over Support To Nitish Kumar Led Bihar Govt.
Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Chirag Paswan has expressed deep regret over extending political support to the Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar.
His remarks come in the wake of a horrifying incident in Gaya, where a 26-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped inside a moving ambulance after collapsing during a Home Guard recruitment physical test.
Speaking to reporters in Patna before heading to a scheduled rally in Gaya on Saturday, Paswan condemned the deteriorating law and order situation in Bihar. “I have heard claims that the rising crime graph is politically motivated, aiming to tarnish the image of the government ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
But no matter the circumstances, the administration has a constitutional duty to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. I feel sorry for having supported a government that is failing in this regard,” he stated candidly.
Paswan, who represents Hajipur in the Lok Sabha and is a key ally within the BJP-led NDA coalition, did not hold back in his criticism. He said the state had become “unsafe and unstable” due to the consistent surge in heinous crimes, particularly those targeting women.
“The situation in Bihar is becoming alarming. There seems to be either a gross administrative incompetence or an unholy nexus between criminals and those in power.
The failure is absolute,” Paswan said. He added that crimes like murder, abduction, armed robbery, and rape are being reported almost daily, indicating a systemic collapse of law enforcement in the state.
His remarks follow a disturbing incident in Bodh Gaya on Thursday during a Home Guard recruitment drive. The young woman in question collapsed midway through a physical endurance test and was being transported to a hospital when the assault allegedly took place.
According to police, the woman lost consciousness in the ambulance and later stated that she was raped by multiple individuals during the journey while still unconscious.
Bodh Gaya police registered a case immediately upon her statement and confirmed the arrest of two suspects within two hours.
“We acted without delay and have taken prompt steps to ensure justice,” a senior police official stated, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine whether more individuals were involved in the crime.
This latest episode is part of a worrying trend in Bihar. On July 17, a convicted murderer, out on parole, was brazenly gunned down inside a private hospital in the state capital, Patna.
Just days earlier, on July 11, a local businessman was shot dead in broad daylight in Patna’s Ramkrishna Nagar area. The back-to-back killings have sparked outrage and fueled criticism of the administration’s apparent inability to rein in violent crime.
Paswan’s statement has added to the mounting pressure on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is already facing public and political backlash over the law and order situation. “If immediate corrective steps are not taken, this could spiral out of control,” Paswan warned.
The situation has reignited debates about accountability, policing reform, and political will in the face of rising crimes in Bihar — a state that has historically struggled with issues of governance and public safety.
